IDW Comic Continues Story After Season 2 Finale In “Star Trek: Discovery – Aftermath”

Following the shocking events of the Season Two finale, the thrills of CBS’s wildly popular Star Trek: Discovery continue in a new three-issue comic book miniseries from IDW Publishing, Star Trek: Discovery – Aftermath!

This riveting new comic book, under license by CBS Consumer Products, reunites co-writers Kirsten BeyerMike Johnson, and artist Tony Shasteen (who previously worked together on 2018’s Star Trek: Discovery – The Light of Kahless) for a storyline focused prominently on Spock. In the aftermath of the 2019 finale, everything in Discovery has changed, and as L’Rell and Pike try to negotiate a fragile peace, Spock finds himself grappling with the fallout from what happened with Michael Burnham – and the mysteries about her still left to unravel.

“The new series shows how Pike, Spock, L’Rell, and the rest of the cast deal with the fallout from the mind-blowing events of Season Two,” says Johnson. “And we couldn’t be happier that Tony Shasteen is beaming back onboard for this story!”

“To be able to follow up on the huge status-quo shift presented in that finale is a dream come true, especially with a team as talented as Kirsten, Mike, and Tony,” says editor Chase Marotz. “In terms of fitting into the broader universe presented in Discovery, this new series is perhaps our most essential yet, and I can’t wait for everybody to see what we’ve got in store for them.”

DC Universe Unveils First Look At “Swamp Thing” In New Teaser

I’m a huge Swamp Thing fan, so when I heard a new TV show was in the works I was instantly on board. When I found out it was going to only be available through DC’s online streaming service, DC Universe, I was less than thrilled. However, with today’s reveal of how the titular character looks, I may have to add another service to my list.

DC Universe released a teaser today that gives us our first look at Swampie as he emerges from the murky Southern depths, and not much else. Still, it’s a relief to finally see Swamp Thing look the way he has always been intended to be seen. This looks very comics accurate in a way that could have not been possible decades ago when they tried with the campy movies of yesteryear.

Watch the teaser trailer below:

Here is their official synopsis of the show: SWAMP THING follows Abby Arcane as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets. When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe.

“Swamp Thing” premieres on May 31 exclusively on DC Universe. He Joins the Doom Patrol and Teen Titans, who are already streaming on the service.

James Monroe Iglehart Raps About Spider-Man

If you combine musicals and geeky things, you get some pretty great results. Case in point, when the cast of Star Trek Discovery did their Rent parody. Or how about today, when we saw James Monroe Iglehart AKA The Genie from “Aladdin” on Broadway, and currently doing double duty in “Hamilton” as Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson, do a rap about Spider-Man!

Iglehart just penned his first comic in “Marvel Comics Presents” issue 3, which star Spider-Man in an interesting tale. It also combines his love of geeky things with his adoration of professional wrestling. For crying out loud, the man just attended Wrestlemania 35 this weekend!

In a video released by Marvel Entertainment from their show “This Week in Marvel”, Iglehart graces us and host Ryan Penagos, AKA Agent M, with a rap about Spidey, and you need to stop what you are doing and give it a watch.

Check out the video below:

“Marvel Presents” issue 3 is currently available in your friendly neighborhood comic store, or wherever you buy your books from.

You Should Be Reading “Weapon H”!

For someone who doesn’t read a lot of Hulk comics, I sure review a lot of them!

Today is different, though, as we take a look at “Weapon H” from Marvel Comics. This 12-issue series wrapped up not too long ago, and continues the story of Clayton Cortez AKA The Hulkverine that began in Greg Pak’s “Totally Awesome Hulk”.

In “Weapon H”, Clayton seeks to make sense of everything that has happened to him since he was first experimented on. Along the way, he is reunited with his wife, makes some new friends, and maybe saves the world a few times. It’s a feel-good, heart-wrenching, and gut-ripping good time that is so out of this world and original, you will be surprised how much fun this book truly is!

Follow the First Daughter’s Post-Punk Exploits in IDW’s “Marilyn Manor”

Writer Magdalene Visaggio and artist Marley Zarcone invite you to the ultimate rager at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Marilyn Manor, a four-issue creator-owned miniseries from IDW Publishing, intended for mature readers!

When the White House goes dark for 17 days in August 1981, the president’s spoiled daughter and her best friend Abe – who claims to be possessed by the spirit of Abe Lincoln – throw the party of the decade, unearthing dead historical figures and government secrets that are better off buried. Sex, drugs, séances, and secret passageways lead to time-bending mystical romps where past and present collide.

“We’ve been trying to capture the feel, the excitement, the energy of the rise of the New Romantics, of the decade that embraced excess and excitement in hugely over-the-top ways, and filled it with chaos and insanity. This is the weirdest thing I’ve ever written in the best way possible, like an apocalypse directed by John Hughes,” says co-creator/writer Magdalene Visaggio.

Uniting the red-hot Eisner-nominated talents of Visaggio (Kim & Kim) and Zarcone (Shade, the Changing Girl) for the first time, Marilyn Manor explores identity, classism, appropriation, and friendship, set just in time for the greatest pop cultural marriage to date: the debut of MTV.

“There isn’t an artist alive who could perfectly capture the style and verve of the early ’80s like Marley Zarcone,” says editor Shelly Bond. “Coupled with Irma Kniivila’s vibrant palette, Marilyn Manoris for readers who like a bit of pop art and revisionist history with their coming-of-age satire.”

Magdalene Vissagio is the Eisner and GLAAD Media Award-nominated writer behind Kim & Kim and Eternity Girl. She’s written comic books for most major publishers including Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, and Oni.

Marley Zarcone is the artist on the critically-acclaimed series Shade, the Changing Girl for Gerard Way’s Young Animal imprint. She is the co-creator/artist of Effigy with writer Tim Seeley for Vertigo, and has worked on numerous projects for Image.
