Ernie Hudson Reaches Out To Jason Reitman To Talk Ghostbusters 3

With a new Ghostbusters movie slated for 2020, everyone is trying to figure out who will be in it. Ernie Hudson got all of our hopes up when he claimed everyone was “all on board”, but it turned out that meant support more than it did a confirmation that the original stars were returning to the franchise.

While visiting the set of Spectrum original series “L.A.’s Finest”, the OG Winston Zeddemore was asked by Slashfilm if he had any updates on appearing in the upcoming Ghostbusters 3.

Here is what he had to say:

“I reached out to Jason,” Hudson said. “I’ve talked to Jason. I’ve also had a conversation with Ivan [Reitman] just to congratulate him. They confirmed that the movie is definitely being made, because you know there’s always been rumors with Ghostbusters the last 30 years. What that’ll look like, they did not share.”

“Nobody’s offered me a job, but the reason I wanted to reach out to Jason, I remember him as a little kid on the set of Ghostbusters,” Hudson said. “The fact that he’s stepping into that, I think the fans have been wanting it so no matter what happens, I know it’s going to be a great movie. I really respect him as a filmmaker. Obviously, I’d love to be a part of it but that hasn’t so far presented itself. I know that the movie will be good.”

Hudson did not get any tasty morsels to share with the public about the film unfortunately, but he seems very optimistic about the entire project.

“He didn’t tell me,” Hudson said. “It wasn’t a long conversation but that’s good. Whatever they do, I’m glad they’re doing something. The Ghostbusters fans, I go anywhere in the world, somebody knows I’m there, they’ll come by in their Ghostbuster outfits. For them, I’m very happy it’s happening.”

Ghostbusters 2020 or Ghostbusters 3 (because you know who you’re gonna’ call, but not the name of the new movie) will open in theaters on July 10, 2020.

First Look At Live-Action “Aladdin” Movie From Disney Underwhelms

Last night during the Grammy Awards, we got our first taste of how the new live-action remake of Disney’s “Aladdin” will look, and it needs to be seen to be believed… for better or worse, you decide!

To be perfectly honest, it’s a pretty underwhelming trailer, both in terms of information and visuals. The biggest buzzkill has to be seeing Will Smith as The Genie. To say he looks like a knockoff alien from Avatar would be putting it mildly. One can hope that this is still an early version of the visual FX, but if this is the final product – yuck.

Another thing that seems very telling to me is that the scene in the trailer was quite dim. I brightened this screenshot up in Photoshop to give you all a better look, and it’s not much better. Aside from looking very flat, it mostly appears like they cut out Will’s face, rotoscoped it on top of a CG model, and called it a day. This would explain the uncanny valley, and how it looks like Smith’s head is floating independently of his misshapen body.

We also got a brief look at Abu and Carpet in the trailer, along with the rest of the effects. Overall, it’s not the most impressive, especially when you consider we are talking about Disney money here, but let’s be optimistic and hope when the film comes out everything will look way better.

We may not be the only people that feel this way. As of the time of this video being posted (about 10 AM EST), the reception is pretty mixed – with over 2 million views, the thumbs up are about the same number of thumbs down, which is hovering around 20K.

The film stars Will Smith as the Genie; Mena Massoud as Aladdin; Naomi Scott as Jasmine; Marwan Kenzari as Jafar; Navid Negahban as the Sultan; Nasim Pedrad as Dalia; Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders; and Numan Acar as Hakim.

“Aladdin” is produced by Dan Lin, p.g.a., and Jonathan Eirich, p.g.a., with Marc Platt and Kevin De La Noy serving as executive producers. Eight-time Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken provides the score, which includes new recordings of the original songs written by Menken and Oscar-winning lyricists Howard Ashman and Tim Rice and includes two new songs written by Menken and Oscar and Tony Award-winning songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.

McFarlane Toys Announces New Harry Potter Action Figure Line Ahead Of NY Toy Fair 2019

There has been a lot of big announcements leading up to NY Toy Fair 2019, which begins this Saturday. However, this new one is magical!

Over on McFarlane Toys IG page, the toymaker posted a pic of a golden snitch, with the caption, “A new brand is joining McFarlane Toys in 2019, and trust us – it’s a keeper. Think you know what it is?”

Here is the post via their official Mcfarlane Toys Instagram:

Great pun aside, this is a pretty huge get for McFarlane Toys, whose biggest properties these days include their Walking Dead and Stranger Things toys. The company has also been dabbling in anime, and we may see some My Hero Academia items at this event.

Whether or not McFarlane will have any of these items at NY Toy Fair 2019 is still to be determined, so stay tuned later this week for our coverage of their booth once the big event kicks off on Saturday!

Last year, SH Figuarts revealed their own line of Harry Potter figures, and Star Ace also has a line of more realistic figures out now too. This new product from McFarlane Toys is bound to be priced easier for collectors and more accessible to mainstream buyers.

There have been a lot of reveals leading up to NY Toy Fair. Some of the highlights so far have included Hasbro’s “Star Wars: Galaxy of Adventures” figures, Mezco’s new One:12 Captain Marvel figureMego announced new 14″ Star Trek figures, and a new line based on characters from Stan Lee’s vault, and Neca debuted a great looking Shredder and Karate Kid set.

UPDATE: Around 1 PM EST we got an official press release from the company, giving more details about what we can expect, and when we can see it.

First Look At “Avengers: Endgame” Costumes – Thanks To Popcorn Maker

“Avengers: Endgame” is fast approaching, and there are still many mysteries abound. Sure, we saw some new footage during The Super Bowl, but it still left us with many questions. One of the biggest has been how will the survivors of The Finger Snap look. Today, we have answers thanks to an unlikely source.

The image was released today on popcorn maker Orville Redenbacher’s website as part of a promotion that ties in with the upcoming Marvel Studios film. The post was seemingly pulled down not long after, as this was likely not meant to be revealed just yet.

Here is how the remaining members of the team will look in the new movie:

There had been some rumors of a black-costumed Hulk, so now we have proof of that. We are also getting a better look at the Ronin outfit, as well as the changes to Captain America, Black Widow, Thor, and Iron Man. Overall, it’s nothing too drastic at first look, but there are clearly some nuanced differences with the majority of these looks for the familiar super heroes.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Endgame will star Robert Downey Jr., Josh Brolin, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Olsen, Chadwick Boseman, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Bettany, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Benedict Wong, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Holland and Anthony Mackie.

Look out for it in US theaters on April 26. Hopefully the popcorn served there will not be made with the blood and guts of former Orville Redenbacher employees.

Chucky Is Back To His Roots With A Modern Twist In New “Child’s Play” Trailer

Nothing is safe from remakes, but in some rare cases, those remakes may be the best thing to do with an outdated movie franchise. Case in point, everyone’s favorite slasher doll, Chucky. His last batch of movies were B-rated schlock at best, and borderline comedy films. In 2019, he’s back, and he’s ditched the jokes for something more sinister.

Check out the trailer below:

This rendition of Chucky seems to keep intact the sensibilities of the original 1988 film, but modernizing it both bringing the doll into the modern world of play as well as the methods of terror. Director Lars Klevberg has said that this ideation of the crazed doll will not be one possessed by a serial killer, but a cyborg gone out of control.

The film stars Gabriel Bateman, Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry and Tim Matheson. The voice of Chucky is still being left a mystery, as is his appearance.

The new Child’s Play will arrive in theaters on June 21.

Yesterday, we showed you the first trailer for the new remake of Stephen King’s “Pet Sematary” film – which one do you think will be scarier?

Bring Out Your Dead With New “Pet Sematary” Trailer

That kitty ain’t so cute no more! This morning, Paramount released the first full trailer for their “Pet Sematary” re-make, starring Jason Clarke, Amy Seimetz, and John Lithgow. Check out the video below:

Here is the official synopsis from Paramount:

Based on the seminal horror novel by Stephen King, (#StephenKing) #PetSematary follows Dr. Louis Creed (Jason Clarke), who, after relocating with his wife Rachel (Amy Seimetz) and their two young children from Boston to rural Maine, discovers a mysterious burial ground hidden deep in the woods near the family’s new home. When tragedy strikes, Louis turns to his unusual neighbor, Jud Crandall (#JohnLithgow), setting off a perilous chain reaction that unleashes an unfathomable evil with horrific consequences.

The original book was released in 1983, and adapted into a film for the first time in 1989. That original version starred Dale Midkiff, Fred Gwynne, Denise Crosby (AKA Tasha Yar from Star Trek: TNG), Brad Greenquist and Michael Lombard. It was a box office hit, costing $11.5 million and earning $57.5 million by the end of its run. Will this remake have the same luck? Time, and discerning audiences, will tell.

“Pet Sematary” will hit US theaters on April 5, 2019.

Samuel L. Jackson Is Back As “Shaft” In New Trailer

They say that cat Shaft is a bad mother… SHUT YOUR MOUTH! I’m just talking about Shaft, and the brand new trailer for the 2019 film that you can watch right now.

Yesterday, this video was posted on Youtube teasing that a new trailer would drop today:

Lo and behold, today the brand new trailer was put online, and here is the trailer for the 2019 edition of “Shaft”:

The first full trailer for it makes it seem like a pretty fun film, centering on the entire Shaft family tree.

“Shaft” will star Samuel L. Jackson, Regina Hall, Avan Jogia, Jessie T. Usher, and Richard Roundtree AKA the original Shaft. The film was originally titled “Son of Shaft”, but in a movie akin to Sylvester Stallone’s “Rocky Balboa” and “Rambo”, they are going back to their roots and using the same name as the original 1971 and 2000 versions. So yeah, no confusion here.

Here is the official synopsis: John Shaft Jr., a cyber security expert with a degree from MIT, enlists his father’s help to uncover the truth behind his best friend’s untimely death.

Here is a look at the official poster as well:

“Shaft” will be released in US theaters on June 14, 2019. It’s directed by Tim Story.

Just for good measure, here is the opening credits from the original film, because damn – is it good! Can’t forget that iconic Isaac Hayes theme song, which also won the 1971 Academy Award for Best Original Song.

The Entire Star Wars Universe Gets Measured In This Hypnotic Video

The Star Wars universe is vast, and continues to grow – possibly faster than ever thanks to Disney. But, have you ever wondered about the scale of this universe? MetaBallUniverse has, and has been putting together videos for quite some time about Star Wars and other things via 3D renderings.

Their latest video asks the question – just how big is everyone and everything in Star Wars? Did you know that BB-8 is actually taller than Yoda, and how small that Rebel Blockade Runner from the opening of New Hope looks when its standing next to the Droid Control Ships from the prequels? And the Death Star (both of them) look absolutely puny next to Starkiller Base.

Check out this mesmerizing video that puts it all in perspective – literally:

A few years ago, the same studio also put together this epic video, comparing the sizes of Starships across the sci-fi spectrum. It’s rare to see the Enterprise-D next to a Star Destroyer in proper scale, so consider this your chance to see how they all stack up next to each other:

Of course, the next step is someone comparing all of their battle capabilities in a free-for-all battle royale, but that’s a video for another day!

You’ll Have To Wait Until 2022 For The New Super Mario Movie

Sorry, Nintendo fans, look like you have a few more years to wait until that mythical animated “Super Mario Bros” movie hits theaters. Insert frowny face [here].

According to Nintendo’s quarterly financial report, the movie is not likely to release until sometime in the distant year of 2022. This came from their section on IP expansion, which detailed partnerships with other companies to expand the number of people who have regular access to Nintendo IP in areas other than video games.

This includes character merchandise, theme parks, and other such
business licensing business initiatives and initiatives in the video content business, such as the aforementioned film.

Here is the full paragraph from their report:

Theme park development with Universal Parks & Resorts is underway. Construction on the “Super Nintendo World” area at Universal Studios Japan is to open in time for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

In addition, the development of animated film based on “Super Mario Bros.” with Illumination is moving along for an anticipated theatrical release around 2022.

On the upside on the IP front, Nintendo plans to open their first official Nintendo shop in Japan, called NINTENDO TOKYO. The store will open in Shibuya later this fall. For real, though, how has there not been an official Nintendo store in Japan before?
