It must have been quite the chore casting a movie like “Pokemon Detective Pikachu”. The sheer number of Pokemon alone is daunting, but trying to find the perfect fit for this movie must have been an even bigger chore. Today, Legendary released the casting tape with all the auditions from the Pokemon who made it into the film, and it is super cute!
Check out the auditions below:
“Pokemon Detective Pikachu” lands in theaters on May 10. It’s super effective!
For many, Ron Perlman is the iconic “Hellboy” of the movies. For Neil Marshall’s 2019 version of the comic book icon, David Harbour will don the horns and fist to give his take on the character. Mike Mignola, creator of “Hellboy“, does agree that Perlman was excellent, but he believes Harbour will be just as good.
Mignola spoke to SYFY Wire during a press screening of the new film, and spoke about what happened that led to Harbour becoming the perfect person to play Hellboy.
“My wife and I were watching Stranger Things, and the minute David popped up on screen, she said, ‘That guy should play Hellboy.’ I never thought about it. I never thought about casting at all, but as soon as I looked at him in that way, I went, ‘Of course, you’re right.'”
Of course, that did not happen immediately, and in the end, someone else from casting called Mignola and suggested Harbour for the role. The rest is history!
As for how the movie turned out, Mignola is very optimistic about it and happy with the final results.
“For the fans of the comics, I would say this thing delivers more than any of the others what you loved about the comics. It’s different, but it has so many more specific nods to the comic, the comics fans should be really happy with this.”
Fans who paid attention in the latest trailer for Joaquin Phoenix’s “Joker” movie may have noticed one of the supporting characters in the film. Robert De Niro appears as a television show host, but it turns out this character may be a callback to an earlier film he did with Martin Scorcese.
You can De Niro in the trailer at around 1:54 for a few quick moments as this character.
The name of the character is Murray Franklin, and many are noting that since the film takes place in 1981 that there could be a link between “Joker” and Scorcese’s 1982 film “The King of Comedy”, where he played a mentally deranged comedian named Rupert Pupkin.
De Niro confirmed this connection with Indiewire, saying, “There’s a connection, obviously, with the whole thing, but it’s not as a direct connection as the character I’m playing being Rupert many years later as a host.”
While the ending of “The King of Comedy” has Pupkin landing his dream job before being carted off to jail, this is what separates that role from Franklin in “Joker”. The character is not a direct continuation, but very much in the spirit of Pupkin – what could have happened if he really made it.
De Niro added that it could have actually been Pupkin as the role instead of Franklin, “If they would’ve proposed that to me, I would’ve said, ‘That’s interesting, maybe we’ll try to do that,’” De Niro said. He also said that by making a film like this, “it is connected in a way, as you’ll see.”
Some parallels have already been made with “Joker” in relation to another Scorcese film, “Taxi Driver”. It’s clear that this new iteration of the Clown Prince of Crime has been influenced by the look of movies from that era, and that Phoenix’s Joker has elements derived from a character like Travis Bickle, so I look forward to seeing how these pieces meld in a very ambitious DC movie.
Later this summer, the first ever Ghostbusters Fan Fest will go down in Culver City, California on the Sony Pictures Lot. Fingers crossed we will be able to attend, and even moreso now that they announced this new guest. Now scheduled to appear at this con is Jason Reitman, son of Ivan Reitman, and director of the new Ghostbusters 2020 film.
In a press release from Wizard World, Reitman was announced to join the roster of guests, which already includes Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson, Maurice LaMarche, Frank Welker, and Ray Parker Jr. among others.
“I am thrilled that my role of Brownstone Boy #2 will finally be given proper recognition. Might also chat about the upcoming Ghostbusters film,” said Reitman.
The big question here is what sort of news will Jason bring with him when he shows up at GB Fan Fest? Will he be able to announce some new cast members, fill us in on which classic stars will join the cast, or could he have some footage to premiere? Chances are we will not know until he actually shows up, but the fans in attendance are definitely going to be in for a treat!
Jeffrey Godsick, EVP, Brand Management and Global Partnerships, Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group said: “We’re excited to be collaborating with Jason Reitman on this new chapter in the franchise. This will be a unique opportunity for fans to get a sneak peek of Jason’s vision for the film. The Ghostbusters Fan Fest is shaping up as a can’t-miss celebration of Ghostbusters and we couldn’t be more pleased that Jason will be such a big part of it.”
John D. Maatta, CEO of Wizard Entertainment said: “We will continue to bring additional value to fans to ensure the greatest Ghostbusters experience imaginable on June 7 and 8 on the Sony Pictures Studio Lot. Adding Jason to Ghostbusters Fan Fest is the next big step and one that fans will be excited to hear about.”
Ghostbusters Fan Fest takes place in California from June 7-8. Information on tickets are available at this link here.
“The Lion King” trailer has finally been revealed by Disney for their upcoming CG remake, and it’s quite the trip down nostalgia lane.
It’s not just a line-for-line remake, as the trailer shows us that they seem to have expanded things a bit, and matured the visual language they used to tell this story. But you don’t have to take my word for it!
Check out the trailer below:
Directed by Jon Favreau, “The Lion King” remake includes an all-star cast featuring Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé as Nala, James Earl Jones returning as Mufasa, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, along with Chiwetel Ejiofor, Alfre Woodard, Billy Eichner, John Oliver, and more.
“The Lion King” arrives in theaters this July. It will be joined by “Aladdin” later this year as well.
We have seen it all over the place, from the trailers to the action figures and even the LEGO sets. The Avengers have white suits in the upcoming “Avengers: Endgame” movie, but the question remains – why? We finally have an answer for the purpose of these costumes, and why they are so important.
“We call them the team suits,” Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige explained to io9. “And we early on decided [revealing them] was a big differentiating factor between [Endgame] and the other films. The Avengers have never had matching outfits before, [so] we thought it was a very intriguing image to see something that made this film feel new.”
“[We had to] make it feel more than just Infinity War II. Because it’s not,” he continued. “Those team suits add something fresh to it. As does Hawkeye, as does Captain Marvel. As does Scott Lang.”
Do the suits serve any purpose other than aesthetics? That is something we still don’t have an answer to, but this is at least a start.
POTENTIAL SPOILER THEORY BELOW:
A theory that is going around now is that the function of the suits is actually for time travel! They are linked back to “Ant-Man and Wasp”, as the tech to make these suits is similar to what Scott Lang’s suit is made of. There’s even a line in Ant-Man and the Wasp about a time vortex in the Quantum Realm, which has made many fans call these outfits “Quantum Realm Suits”. This theory continues that by wearing these suits, the team can travel through time and not be affected by altering reality. Does this mean they could stop “the finger snap” because of these suits and some other yet to be revealed technology?
In the last trailer for the film, we saw the entire new team of Avengers walking around in these suits, minus Rocket and Thor (although these toys claim they will be wearing them). While I prefer the individual outfits, I can see the reasoning behind this and am curious to see them function.
I also wonder if Tony Stark will have a repainted Iron Man armor to match his teammates, since Rhodey’s War Machine armor seems to have these colors in the trailer.
The full plot of the movie remains to be dug up, but so far, things are looking very Addams from what we have seen. Most likely, this will be about how odd they are compared to “Normal people”, and some new neighbors next door will have to learn to love and accept them.
The all-star voice cast for this movie includes Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, Chloë Grace Moretz, Finn Wolfhard, Nick Kroll, Bette Midler and Allison Janney.
We have been waiting since early 2017 for this day to come, and we are at the finish line for the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine documentary “What We Left Behind” to be released.

Today, the trailer was finally dropped, and we have a better idea of what we can expect from the film.
Check out the trailer below:
IGN got the scoop about what to expect on the DVD:
The film presents a fascinating in-depth look at the past, present, and future of a series whose dark, edgy take on Gene Roddenberry’s vision was often misunderstood when it premiered, but has grown into a beloved mainstay in the Star Trek franchise.
Featuring extensive new interviews with the cast and crew of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as well as newly remastered HD footage from the television series, What We Left Behind also focuses on the original writers of the series as they craft a brand-new episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, developing what would be the eighth-season premiere if the show were to return to the air today.
Following the feature presentation, a taped roundtable discussion with directors Ira Steven Behr, David Zappone, and the film’s producers will provide audiences with a comprehensive look at the making of the film, the show’s fans and the series’ ongoing appeal to Trekkers of all ages. Fathom attendees will also receive an exclusive double-sided poster with the theatrical poster art for What We Left Behind on one side, and an original illustration from the film on the other. (Quantities limited, while supplies last.)
Fathom Events is bringing What We Left Behind to more than 800 movie theaters in the U.S. on Monday, May 13, 2019. They will be available to purchase starting on April 12.

” … But after taking the last few weeks to discuss, everyone involved felt this was the right move. The team also did not want to feel as if it was disrespecting Smith, who helped bring this character to life for the first time, by replacing him with Elba. While many believe chances are still slim for a future return, the decision keeps the door open for Smith to possibly come back in future films, since his original reason for leaving had to do with scheduling and not creative differences.”
Warner Bros. representatives had no further comments about this news at the time of posting.
With this piece of news, only three characters expected to return in the sequel – Harley Quinn as Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang, and Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller. Gunn is in the process of casting the remaining team members with production expected to start in the fall.
No other casting news has been announced yet, but with plans to start filming this summer, I am sure we will hear some info sooner than later.
The film is planned for a summer release in 2021.
