LEGO Breaks Guinness World Record At “Star Wars Celebration 2019”

Yesterday, the LEGO Group marked 20 years of LEGO Star Wars by achieving a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for largest display of LEGO Star Wars minifigures, kicking off a weekend-long experience at Star Wars Celebration.

Two decades worth of products, content and collaboration between two of the world’s most beloved brands will be showcased at booth #1616 at McCormick Place in downtown Chicago, giving fans of all ages the chance to relive their fandom and build excitement for what’s to come this Fall.

Made up of 36,440 LEGO Star Wars stormtrooper minfigures, the record-setting display is arranged in the shape of the iconic stormtrooper helmet, measuring 20 feet tall by 20 feet wide. A team of 12 LEGO builders spent 16 hours assembling all of the minifigures, which were then shipped to Chicago to be arranged for display at Star Wars Celebration. Once assembled, the baseplates were transported to McCormick Place, where they were arranged for final evaluation by GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS Adjudicator, Christina Flounders Conlon.

The collaboration between the companies began 20 years ago when 13 LEGO Star Wars™ sets were introduced at the American International Toy Fair in New York in 1999. The line of licensed construction toys was the LEGO Group’s first licensed property and has since remained one of the company’s most popular, allowing fans across generations and geographies to come together in fun and challenging building exercises.

Since the launch, over 700 different sets and more than 1,000 LEGO Star Wars cobranded minifigures have hit shelves. Notable LEGO Star Wars milestones include, the first modeled minifigure headpiece being introduced in 1999 with the Jar Jar Binks minifigure, while new short leg molds introduced in 2002 brought Ewoks and Yoda to life in minifigure form.

Beyond construction sets, the collaboration has also produced five video games, several television and web series, and an abundance of other merchandise based on the endless stories, characters and vehicles of the beloved galaxy.

No New Toys To Be Released For Nintendo’s “StarLink: Battle for Atlas”

“Starlink: Battle for Atlas: was a very ambitious project for Nintendo and their Switch console. They took the success of the Amiibo line, and tried to expand it into something more toy-like for kids to play with, while also combining it with video games. It was a very cool concept, similar to Tomy’s LightSeekers. Ultimately, both failed to deliver, and any hopes for more toys for “Starlink” have crash-landed.

Ubisoft released a post on their official website, announcing that more toys would not be on the way for this game. However, in-game content would continue and grow, you just won’t have anything physical to play with.

Here is the full note from the Dev team:

Thank you so much for the warm response to the new Starlink content announced during the February Nintendo Direct.

With the announcement of new content arriving this April, we felt that it is important to provide an update on the topic of physical toys. Starlink: Battle for Atlas has been a passion project for us from the start, and we are incredibly proud of the modular Starship technology we have developed, and how well players have responded to it.

Despite the immense and continuous support from our players, the sales for Starlink: Battle for Atlas fell below expectations. Consequently, we recently made the decision to not release any additional physical toys for the Spring update and in the future.

As part of our effort to do right by our passionate and dedicated community we are currently hard at work on our biggest update to the game so far and are pleased to tell all of you that there will be new digital ships, pilots and weapons to collect.

Additionally, there will be a ton of free content to expand your games such as additional missions, challenges and new activities to engage in throughout Atlas, including content that was inspired by community suggestions, such as Outlaw Racing.

We’re very grateful for the support we have received from players around the world and can’t wait for everyone to get their hands on our next big update launching this April.

We’ll see you in the stars,

Starlink Development Team

The toys for “Starlink” interacted with the game by plugging them into the controller, and was a very cool idea that just never caught on with gamers. Sad to see something this interesting fade away, but perhaps another company in the future can figure out what went wrong and try it again – this time doing it in a more sustainable way.

The only upside for this is if you wanted to try the game but didn’t want to spend the money investing in it, much like Skylanders, the prices for the toys will likely start dropping soon, making it much easier to start playing.

Bret Hart and Shinsuke Nakamura Announced As Wave 2 of “WWE Ultimate Editon” Figures

Wrestlemania 35 is days away, and the wrestling world is going insane – especially on the East Coast! WWE Axxess is just about ready to get started, where Mattel will be unveiling many new action figures. Things just kicked off as the company revealed their second line of “WWE Ultimate Edition” figures, with the addition of Bret “The Hitman” Hart and Shinsuke Nakamura joining the series.

Check out photos below of both figures!

Bret, with his splatter paint outfit from the 90’s, will come with three different heads, which appear to have slots on the sides to put his signature sunglasses on.

I’m still not a fan of the hair that they have given Bret, especially since it looks like overcooked black pasta trickling down his forehead. I want this figure and will own it, but I do wish Mattel would do something about his hair to make it look a little less peculiar.

He also comes with eight hands, and a second set of arms and torso that combine to make his leather jacket look.

Nakamura will come with three different head sculpts, and six hands, as well as a spare torso and set of arms so he can wear his red jacket.

These are easily the best face sculpts we have seen for either wrestler, and getting three new heads with one figure is amazing. My only concern is the five ‘o’ clock shadow for both of them, since Mattel has been having trouble as of late with facial hair. I’ve avoided purchasing any of the new Seth Rollins Elite figures because the beards have all been terribly painted – no matter how many times I find him. I hope that since these are “Ultimate” editions, more care will be given with how paint is applied.

I was a big fan of the most recent Nakamura elite figure, and I am very excited for this version, although part of me wishes he came with another jacket since he has so many – but beggars can’t be choosers.

No release date has been announced yet for these, but I would expect them out by late summer or the fall of this year.

Stay tuned, as more WWE figure reveals are bound to happen over the next few days!
