New York Toy Fair 2013: “Ripple Junction” booth

Releasing whimsical novelty items since 1992, “Ripple Junction” brought their retro and modern goods to NY Toy Fair 2013 at the Javits Center.

With items from “My Little Pony”, “The Goonies”, and even the bear coat from Workaholics, Ripple Junction brought the nostalgia back for all ages. “The Big Bang Theory” was the hot item for Ripple Junction this year, specifically anything with Soft Kitty or “Bazinga” emblazoned on it. There were hats, slippers, jackets, belt buckles, lunch boxes, Christmas ornaments, socks, t-shirts, sweaters, and just about anything else you can think of with the soft kitty on it.

My personal favorite was easily the Big Bang Theory “Soft Kitty” hoodie. Featuring cat ears on the hood, paw mittens for your hands, and a cat tail on the back, the item is available for men and female (meaning I can wear this and keep my dignity). The women’s version has a pink lining on it, while the male version does not. Offering your stomach for tummy rubs should be done at the wearer’s own discretion. Purr, purr, purr…

Check out the gallery below for all of their items at NY Toy Fair!

You can check out more of Ripple Junction over on their website, which features a much wider variety of items than shown at Toy Fair.

New York Toy Fair 2013: GI Joe and Transformers vinyl figurines from “Loyal Subjects”

“The Loyal Subjects” trekked out from California and braved the big snowstorm to make it to NY Toy Fair 2013, and brought plenty of goodies to show off.

The vinyl toy makers brought their line of blind box GI Joe vinyl figurines, which includes Duke, Cobra Commander, Destro, Storm Shadow, Snake Eyes, Snow Job, Zartan, Gung Ho, and some random mystery characters.

Debuting for the first time were their blind box Transformers line, which includes Optimus Prime, Megatron, Soundwave, Jazz, Bumblebee, Grimlock, and a few other surprises not shown. The company also had their custom skateboards available, their designer “Chaos Bunnies” figures, and a multitude of great looking t-shirts that I would, and may have to, kill to get my hands on. Same goes for the Transformers figurines, but company owner Jonathan Cathey is personally guarding those to keep them out of my paws.

“Little Buddy” was at New York Toy Fair 2013 at the Javits Center with tons of their soft and squeezable friends along with them. The company produces amazing looking Nintendo licensed plushies of all of your favorite characters from across the retro and modern gaming horizon.

The amount of characters in staggering, as you can see in our gallery. New York Toy Fair 2013: “Comic Images” Booth

New Jersey based company, “Comic Images” was well represented at NY Toy Fair 2013 at the Jacob Javits Center with a huge booth showing off their wide variety of plush toys coming out this year, as well as previous releases.

Some of the items up for viewing included their Marvel licensed plushies, which includes Thor, Captain America, The Incredible Hulk, and Wolverine. Another hugely popular and successful line for them is their Star Wars line, which includes plush versions of your favorite vehicles like the X-Wing, Millenium Falcon, and TIE Fighter ships. You can also get some sweet characters like Yoda, Darth Vader, Chewbacca, R2-D2, Stormtroopers, Ewoks, Jawas, and Boba Fett. Also unveiled this year were some Star Wars beasts, including the Rancor, Wampa, and Taun Taun.

My personal favorite item of their booth was their new Masters of the Universe line. Featuring the classic Filmation characters in huggable form, their first wave includes He-Man, Skeletor, Trapjaw, Beastman, and Battlecat. “Comic Images” also had larger versions of their plushes, as well as backpacks with these characters and even Chewbacca’s famous saddle bag that you can wear to work. Remember, let the wookie win.

‘The Walking Dead’ Comic Series 2 Figures Announced

McFarlane Toys is announcing the second comic series inspired by the highly acclaimed, Eisner Awarding-winning The Walking Dead comic book series from creator/writer Robert Kirkman.

The Walking Dead, the top-selling graphic novels of 2011 and 2012, from Kirkman’s Skybound imprint at Image Comics, tells the story of the months and years that come after the zombie apocalypse. It follows a group of survivors, led by Rick Grimes, who travel in search of safety and security, all while fending off the hordes of undead and even deadlier humans they encounter on their journey.

The character list in series 2 includes:

GLENN
Glenn, an original Atlanta survivor, has become crucial to the survival of Rick’s group due to his ability and agility at getting in-and-out of zombie-infested areas in order to search for food and supplies. Glenn, in full riot gear, features 28 points of articulation and is equipped with two pistols, riot shield, baton, gas can, and removable helmet with flip-up visor.

THE GOVERNOR
Zombies are not the only threat to Rick and his band of survivors, the Governor is truly the first human antagonist that the group encounters within the comic series. The Governor features 28 points of articulation and includes a kitchen knife, pistol, and alternate mutilated head & right arm.

MICHONNE’S PET ZOMBIE
It’s not until Mike, Michonne’s boyfriend, is bit by a zombie that Michonne discovers the true nature of the zombie epidemic. A bite is a death sentence! Michonne quickly realizes that Zombies don’t attack other Zombies and uses Mike as camouflage and protection against the hordes of the undead awaiting her in this new world. Michonne’s Pet Zombie features 17 points of articulation and includes a neck collar & chain, tear off arms & jaw, and push in/ pull out intestines.

PENNY, THE GOVERNOR’S DAUGHTER ZOMBIE
Nothing is stronger than a father daughter bond, as we see with The Governor and his daughter Penny. Infected early on with the zombie virus, Penny has been cared for and fed by her unconditionally loving father. Penny features 12 points of articulation and includes a bucket of fresh body parts (severed leg, severed foot, severed hand, intestines, heart and Rick’s severed hand) that the Governor feeds to her. Figure also includes a fish tank with trophy heads collected by her father. One of the heads can be used as an alternate head for Michonne’s Pet Zombie Mike, allowing you to build Michonne’s 2nd pet and Mike’s best friend, Terry.

BLOODY BLACK & WHITE THE GOVERNOR
WITH ZOMBIE DAUGHTER 2-PACK

Staying true to the comic, this blood-splattered black & white version of The Governor & Daughter Zombie is the perfect addition to any The Walking Dead collection. This box set still includes all the articulation and gory accessories included with the standard figures.

All of these The Walking Dead Comic Series 2 figures will be available in June of 2013.

Round 5 unveils “Ultimate Collector” series 10 action figures

Round 5 President Damon Lau announces the release of the Ultimate Collector Series 10 featuring twelve new figures. The lineup includes debut figures for UFC bantamweight champion Dominick “The Dominator” Cruz, perennial contender Chael Sonnen, heavyweight striking sensation Alistair Overeem, former WEC lightweight champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis, and the first man to claim the UFC heavyweight championship belt, Mark “The Hammer” Coleman.

The lineup also includes new figures for reigning middleweight champion Anderson “The Spider” Silva and former light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida. A Limited Edition Mark Coleman figure based on the Hammer’s historic performance at UFC XII: Judgment Day anchors Ultimate Collector Series 10. Each of the 750 Limited Edition figures is individually numbered and bears a sticker autographed by Coleman. The Limited Edition Coleman figures also come complete with Coleman’s original Ultiman heavyweight title belt, and are housed in vintage UFC collectible packaging.

“The characters comprising Series 10 reflect the evolution of mixed martial arts,” says Round 5 president Damon Lau. “Dominick Cruz, Anthony Pettis, and Chael Sonnen have been fighting for years. They paid their dues in the WEC before they became superstars in the Octagon. After becoming the UFC’s first heavyweight champion Mark Coleman lost three straight in the Octagon. A lot of fans said he was finished, but he resurrected his career fighting in PRIDE. Series 10 pays homage to the work ethic and sacrifice that transforms ordinary men into extraordinary fighters.”

Each figure in Ultimate Collector Series 10 arrives on shelves in collectible and protective UFC-themed packaging that includes a short bio detailing the individual fighter.

Ultimate Collector Series 10 will be available at Walmart in Canada, and Toys”R”Us in the United States.

Dark Horse Officially Unveils Tyrion Lannister Statue!

When looking for a key moment to immortalize as the second sculptural piece in Dark Horse’s highly coveted line of Game of Thrones collectibles, Dark Horse turned to none other than writer/producers David Benioff and D. B. Weiss for the most “statueworthy” moment in the then-unaired second season.

The two chose the memorable scene when Tyrion, as portrayed by Peter Dinklage, charges into battle, leading the defense of King’s Landing against an assault by King Stannis Baratheon in the Battle of the Blackwater. They further assisted with special photographic reference taken during filming, expressly for use as sculpture reference for the piece.

“When Dark Horse Deluxe began developing a new line of collectibles based on the HBO® adaptation of Game of Thrones, we were pleased to discover we had the full attention of all involved, from the team at HBO Global Licensing to the principals steering in the production,” said Dark Horse’s VP of Product Development, David Scroggy. “The Tyrion statue is a benefit of that communication, and we know the fans and collectors will recognize the quality that is the result.”

Dark Horse is currently offering the statue to the trade for advance order. The Tyrion statue will be issued in a limited run, with the final edition size undetermined at press time.

This detailed figure measures approximately 10 inches in height and 9.5 inches across its base, which features Tyrion’s cast-aside helmet and other painstakingly re-created details. Hand painted and numbered, the Game of Thrones Tyrion statue will come packaged in a deluxe full-color box.

Look for these statues to arrive in stores on February 20, 2013, with a suggested retail price of $199.99.
