In part five of eight videos, Rebecca mentioned some famous musicians that may be singing on “Steven Universe” soon, and the importance of the diverse music used in the show.

Sugar also discussed one of her early comics called “Don’t cry for me, I’m already dead” which is about two friends who relate to each other using Simpsons quotes, and why the visual language of image repertoire is important for her and vital to art.

Rebecca Sugar on gender & sexual diversity in “Steven Universe”

On April 3, 2016, Rebecca Sugar held a panel during the MoCCa Arts Festival in Manhattan, NY for a lucky group of 85 fans.

In part four of eight videos, Rebecca discusses gender diversity in “Steven Universe” and why it is important for young kids to understand why it is okay to feel the way they do.

“If you wait to tell kids, to tell queer youth that it matters how they feel or that they are even a person, then it is going to be too late. You have to let it be what it gets to be for everyone… You are told that you should dream about love, this fulfilling love that you are going to have… like the Prince and Snow White are not someones parents. They are something you want to be and are dreaming of a future where you will find happiness Why shouldn’t everyone have that? It’s really absurd to think that everyone shouldn’t get to have that.”

Sugar also whipped out the ukulele to play a song for us related to her thoughts on this topic, “So this is love” from Cinderella. And the fans go crazy!

NY Toy Fair 2016: Diamond Select booth tour – Batman, Ghostbusters, X-Files – VIDEO

Diamond Select is a booth with so many different properties, they always get at least two videos from us. This year at NY Toy Fair 2016, they had so much stuff we had to break it up into three.

Apologies for the scratchy audio here, my microphone was beginning to die here, so I have tweaked the audio as much as possible to make it easier on your ears.

Narrated by Zach Oat, this first video features toys, statues and other collectibles of Gotham, iZombie, The X-Files, TMNT minimates, action figures of The Muppets, and a variety of merchandise from Batman: The Animated Series.

In part two, we see more from DST, including their latest merchandise from The Justice League, Star Trek (including some new ships and figures like KHAAAAAANNN!!!!), and Ghostbusters.

And finally, the third video features the new statues from Marvel Comics, including the new female Thor and Lady Deadpool, plus Spiderman, Captain Marvel, The Incredible Hulk, and Deadpool. More Marvel Minimates are also coming on the way, with plenty of love for the X-Men and Spiderman. DST also showed off their new vinimates, larger-scale minimate figures in dramatic poses, with the first line including The X-Files, Ghostbusters, Nightmare before Christmas, Aliens and Predator.

Speaking of Aliens, check out the new minimates and vehicles from Aliens at the end of the video.

Not shown in the video (because photography of them was prohibited) were prototypes from Diamond’s upcoming Quentin Tarantino toy properties, including Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction.

NY Toy Fair 2016: DC Collectibles Video Tour – Batman, Suicide Squad, DC Icons, and more

As mentioned before, my microphone began to have some issues during the last leg of this event, which led ultimately to its demise. Please excuse any scratchy audio, I did my best to make it tolerable when I could, and I can promise that this problem will not happen again.

Jim Fletcher takes us on our annual tour of the DC Collectibles booth with the usual laughs and silly nonsense that you have come to expect from us. In this first video, we look at the newest statues from DC Direct, including the amazingly lifelike statues from the new “Suicide Squad” film, including Harley Quinn, The Joker, Deadshot, Killer Croc, Kitana, and Captain Boomerang. We also see the new statues for “Batman VS Superman: Dawn of Justice”, with Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman.

Additionally, check out the new statues and figures from DC TV, including Flash, Arrow and Supergirl. Stay tuned until the end to see the new prop replica of Captain Cold’s freeze gun, which we try to test and see if it really works.

In our second video, we see the great new line for the Harley Quinn comic series, which hardcore fans will certainly love. Also for the hardcore DC fans, the continuation of their DC Icons figures, which features new version of the John Stewart Green Lantern, Static, Firestorm, Swamp Thing, Wonder Woman, The Joker from “The Killing Joke”, Cameron Stewart style Batgirl and her motorcycle, a deluxe version of Cyborg and the enormous Darkseid figure. Plus, the new accessory packs for this line that are good enough that even casual fans might want to invest in these.

Lastly, the newest figures from the hit video game, “Batman: Arkham Knight”, which Jim assures is far from over yet, and now includes Oracle, Poison Ivy, vacation Joker, Harley Quinn and Batgirl.

Finally, in our last video, we spotlight all of the new offerings from the “Batman: The Animated Series” line, which includes a new version of the Batmobile, Christmas Joker, Harley Quinn, a five-pack with the ladies of DC animated (Livewire, Batgirl, Supergirl, Harley Quinn, and Poison Ivy), The Demon, Ras Al Ghul and his daughter Talia Ghul, the Ventriloquist, Batman Beyond, Frank Miller style Batman, Carrie Kelly Robin and Mutant Leader, Harvey Bullock, and more. Plus, check out the huge new Batwing which has to be seen to be believed!

NY Toy Fair 2016: McFarlane Toys video tour – The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Spawn

NY Toy Fair is almost at a close, and our massive video coverage continues as we look at the latest toys, statues, and construction sets from an original trendsetter in the high-end action figure world, McFarlane Toys!

The Toddfather himself, Todd McFarlane, gave us a walking tour of the booth. We get a glimpse at their new figures from Assassin’s Creed, The Walking Dead, NBA and NFL, and HALO line. Unfortunately, due to an issue with my microphone (AKA it’s eventual death during this event), a good portion of the interview was lost due to that snafu. This was the only section I was able to recover, so please excuse the occasional audio issue in this video.

With so many items from The Walking Dead, we had to give it a video all to itself. This highlight reel checks out their upcoming figures, statues and construction sets from the hit show on AMC, along with a new item from Fear the Walking Dead. Best of all, the Negan statue gets a spotlight and we get up close and personal with the Daryl Dixon statue, which is so new that it is not even painted yet and still has a long way to go before being finalized, according to Todd himself. Daryl has never looked better, and this is going to be tough to pass up for any serious TWD collector.

In this video, we get an overview of some of the awesome stuff in the public booth like their Game of Thrones construction sets as well as the latest Spawn statues, plus some secrets that were only accessible in the press area like their newest Game of Thrones and Five Nights at Freddy’s construction sets, their new anime line, and some additional Walking Dead products, including collectible mini-figures.

NY Toy Fair 2016: DC Multiverse figures – VIDEO

As part of the Matty Collector event at NY Toy Fair 2016, Mattel showed off their next line of DC Multiverse figures. Included in this new wave is the Mutant Leader and armored Batman from Frank Miller’s “The Dark Knight Returns”, The Joker, a Doomsday Superman hybrid that I do not know the name of at this time (but feel free to let me know in the comments), figures based on the TV show versions of Flash, Arrow, and Supergirl, and a massive spoiler in the way of Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor from “Batman VS Superman: Dawn of Justice” with no hair and in prison clothes. So, anyone complaining about Lex having hair in the film can STFU now. The build-a-figure in this line will be the giant Doomsday figure seen here.

Also on the way but previously shown are more from “The Dark Knight Returns” including Batman, Superman, and one of Batman’s soldiers.

NY Toy Fair 2016: ‘Ghostbusters’ reboot figures & proton pack – VIDEO

Whether you like it or not, the reboot for “Ghostbusters” is on its way later this summer, and Mattel and Matty Collector are gearing up for what they hope to be a big hit with their toys. During the Matty Collector event, press got their first look at the new action figures of the four busters, along with a six-inch version of the Staypuft marshmallow man, a winged ghost monster named Mayhem, and the key villain in the film, Rowan, who looks a heck of a lot like the “no ghost” logo minus the red circle. Looks like we got some more plot info at this event along with a glimpse of the ladies in their jumpsuits and packs.

The following day, we got a tour of the Mattel booth which had a few other items from the film, including the mini-ghosts and most importantly – the new proton pack accessory! Not only do we get to see what the back of the pack looks like on the figures, we also see what kids (and some adults) might be wearing when they start pretending to be GB’s again! No word on whether we will see a classic style pack, but we can only hope that if this line does well enough, perhaps Mattel will consider a line of accessories for the original movie that is not a high-priced adult collectible.

NY Toy Fair 2016: IAMElemental Action Figures Series 2 with Julie Kerwin – VIDEO

During NY Toy Fair 2016, we caught up with Julie Kerwin, the mastermind behind the IAMElemental line of female action figures. Brought on by a desire to produce action figures that portrayed women in a positive light, Julie unleashed the first series last year and is now onto the second wave, with “Wisdom” being the core theme.

We spoke with Julie about the second series of these toys, the future of the line, the reasons for making them, and the reception they have had since day one.

The second wave will be seeing many improvements over their first line, with more detailed sculpting, and the elimination of blind bags and implementation of blister packs so you can see which figure you are getting before you buy it. More six-inch figures will be on the way as well, so expect news about that as we get closer to NYCC 2016.
