NY Toy Fair 2016: Tamashii Nations Star Wars Samurai Figures – VIDEO

Tamashii Nation’s Star Wars figures have been turning heads, giving them the Samurai treatment that the movies were initially inspired from. George Lucas has cited Akira Kurosawa as a source for the look and feel of the original trilogy, and this line of figures has combined those two worlds into one highly-articulated line of toys.

This year, the company debuted a new Boba Fett and the Emperor’s Royal Guard, along with their Darth Vader and new types of Stormtroopers joining the fray. It’s hard not to fall in love with these figures, and it’s even harder not to spend all of your paychecks on them.

NY Toy Fair 2016: Mattel’s Suicide Squad figures

At the Matty Collector event during NY Toy Fair 2016, Mattel unveiled their anticipated action figures for the upcoming “Suicide Squad” movie. This lineup includes two 12-inch figures (with limited articulation) of an unmasked Deadshot and Joker, along with the first wave of six-inch action figures that include Katana, Killer Croc, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot (with alternate Will Smith head), The Joker, and a gas mask wearing Batman.

Noticeably absent from this presentation was Harley Quinn, whose only representation in figure form that we have seen thus far was at DC Direct as a statue. Not sure why Mattel is keeping their Harley under wraps, but I am sure we will see her in the second wave of this line, along with the rest of the team.

NYToy Fair 2016: Monster High Dolls from Mattel – VIDEO

A doll line that I have some curiousity about is Mattel’s Monster High series, which takes your average fashion doll and spooks it up a bit. Mattel unveiled a bunch of new products for this line during NY Toy Fair 2016, and here is your chance to get a closer look at these scary cool series.

Take a look at the latest Monster High dolls, the new Monster High minis (more affordable at 2.99 a figure), and their new 12-inch fashion dolls for $25 each.

NY Toy Fair 2016: SH Figuarts Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles figures

SH Figuarts has been doing tremendous things with their line of figures, hitting up big anime properties along with some others like the new Freddy Mercury of their Michael Jackson figures. At NY Toy Fair 2016, the company debuted their new figures based on the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”. Highly articulated and resembling their cartoon counterparts, SH Figuarts TMNT line is going to turn a lot of heads and attract many new buyers to the line, and I hope it continues next year with the addition of April O’Neil and some bad guys (who wouldn’t want a Shredder as part of this series?).

NY Toy Fair 2016: Mattel’s WWE Figures – Elite, Zombies, Basic – VIDEO

One of the lines that I collect with a rabid fever is Mattel’s WWE line. The company has had the license since 2009 and their figures continue to be solid. At NY Toy Fair 2016, there was not much new to show unfortunately, as most of the prototypes on display were of figures that were already out or about to come out. However, there were a few surprises that made me very happy.

Aside from the new elites and basic figures, we also got our first chance to see the Defining Moments exclusive Chris Jericho, as well as a new classic style Sting with an American jacket. The coolest item had to be the world debut of their WWE Zombies line, which includes John Cena, Triple H, Paige, Bray Wyatt, Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns, and The Undertaker in an undead style.

NY Toy Fair 2016: Playmobil booth tour – VIDEO

Playmobil always has one of the biggest booths and the most stuff to take photos or video of, and this year was no exception. What they lack in licenses like Lego has, Playmobil has been a trusted brand for just as long with their line of fantasy and their versions of everyday life that capture kids imaginations. Space travel, pirates, princesses, jungles, zoos, and everything in between (even a Porsche dealership) – Playmobil has it all.

The new key item for the company this year is their NHL line, which features 17 actual pro Hockey teams from the NHL. Two-packs of figures will be available, along with a giant hockey rink and other items to complete this line. Playmobil will also continue their blind bag line of mystery figures with an all-female wave later this year.

NY Toy Fair 2016: HEROCROSS Justice League & TMNT figures – VIDEO

Herocross figurations have been a strong line for the Japanese company, with figures from Star Wars, Aliens, Predator, and Robocop already selling well. At NY Toy Fair 2016, the company showed off their newest series, which includes mini-stylized versions of figures for the upcoming “Batman VS Superman: Dawn of Justice” film and signature version of DC Comics favorites with over 20 points of articulation, accessories, and other unique features that make this a very cool line.

Also debuting were Herocross versions of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which might become my very first Herocross toys that I own once they are released.

NY Toy Fair 2016: Quantum Mechanix – Firefly, Star Trek, DC, Supernatural – VIDEO

Quantum Mechanix has been under our radar for too long, and NY Toy Fair 2016 was the perfect place to get to know this great company.

Take a look at some of their newest offerings, including new replicas of famous ships from nerdom including the Keaton era Batwing, Star Trek ships, and The Milano from “Guardians of the Galaxy”. QmX also showed off their 12-inch Firefly Malcolm Reynolds figure, as well as Spock and Captain Kirk, plus their Q figures from DC Comics that I now need to have on my desk.

Fans of Supernatural can now look forward to statues of Sam and Dean Winchester from this company, and hopefully much more if these sell well (so you saltgunners, hunters, and wayward sons need to jump on these). There is plenty more to see so check out the video get the 411 from Quantum Mechanix.

I apologize for the random part of this video that has no audio and is only b-roll (which is thankfully very short). As I learned, banging out 48 videos in five days can lead to some mistakes, and luckily this was the only one I made that I could have prevented. My apologies for that, but I hope you enjoy the rest of the video.

NY Toy Fair 2016: Titans Vinyls – X-Files, Doctor Who, Cartoon Network – VIDEO

We are big fans of Titans Merchandise and their vinyl figures, and are always excited to see what new licenses they will bring to NY Toy Fair 2016. This year was no disappointment, as we get to see a sneak preview of their newest lines from The X-Files, Hannibal, Edward Scissorhands, and the continuation of their Doctor Who and Mass Effect lines.

The big news for me is their Cartoon Network line, which has the ability to access 25 years worth of toons that can become toys. The first series will include Johnny Bravo, Dexter’s Laboratory, Regular Show, Adventure Time, Steven Universe, and the Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy to name a few. We also learn about some of their exclusives that are already out, as well as what might be on the way.
