Scorpion Alien by NECA – Action Figure Review

In space, no one can hear you play with toys. Today, we review the Scorpion Alien figure by NECA, based on the vintage 90s Kenner line of “Aliens” figures.

This particular figure, along with Apone (which we also reviewed here), were my first ever Aliens toys growing up as a kid. While the nostalgia is strong with these, this Scorpion Alien is a five-star figure that has made me officially want to buy this entire line from NECA. Watch the video see why!

Kenner style Sgt. Apone by NECA – Action Figure Review

One of my favorite toy lines as a kid was Kenner’s “Aliens” line. NECA has revived that line with their Aliens license, and brought us a modernized version, done with their superb sculpting and using the vintage Kenner look.

This Apone, which features an amazing sculpt of actor Al Matthews, is definitely going to be a contender for figure of the year. Even if you never played with this toy as a kid and have no nostalgia for it, this figure is perfect in so many ways. Watch the review to find out why!

We also did two live streams with them of everything in the booth (including some things not shown here) – one on Saturday during the show, and another the following day with a booth rep (video quality is rough in that one, but audio is very good and informative).

Two “Alien” Series In The Works – One WIth Ridley Scott PRODUCING

They come mostly at night. Mostly. That is, the upcoming pair of live-action shows set in the Ridley Scott “Alien” universe. An enduring franchise that has somehow never had a TV show, it looks like that is about to change, and instead of getting just one, we may be getting a pair.

According to a report from HN Entertainment, details are minimal at best right now but it seems there will be two shows coming. While both are in the early developmental phase, one of them is rumored to be headed to Hulu, and Ridley Scott would be on board as an executive producer.

With the Disney and Fox merger taking place very soon, it seems Disney will be okay with Fox continuing to produce more mature content. Disney is headed down that route as well, although I doubt we will ever see Mickey and Donald on board the Sulaco.

The last major Alien project was “Alien: Covenant”, which was a bit of a flop. It seems TV could be a saving grace for this franchise, that truly deserves better than some of the schlock it’s been given.

At this point, there is no concrete news on anything so take this with a grain of salt. I would totally watch an episodic Alien series, and a franchise like this would absolutely benefit from that type of format.

SDCC 2018: WILLIAM GIBSON’S “ALIEN 3” SCREENPLAY GETS THE COMICS TREATMENT THIS SUMMER

An Alien blockbuster is coming to a comic shop near you when Dark Horse Comics brings William Gibson’s original, unproduced Alien 3 script to life with the help of writer and artist Johnnie Christmas. While Gibson was a contributor in the early phase of the writing for Alien 3, ultimately most of his concepts never made it into the final film. As the father of the cyberpunk genre with titles like Neuromancer, Count Zero, and Mona Lisa Overdrive, Dark Horse is thrilled to see Gibson’s vision fully realized for the first time!

Following the deadly events of Aliens, the Union of Progressive Peoples intercepts the spaceship carrying the hibernating bodies of Ripley, Hicks, Newt, and Bishop. But unbeknownst to them, they have also picked up another deadly passenger whose discovery will unleash a race between two governments to weaponize the xenomorph in this horrifying and poignant Cold War-themed thriller.

With an intense script by Gibson (Neuromancer, Agency, Count Zero, Archangel), cinematic art by Johnnie Christmas (Angel Catbird, Firebug, Sheltered), vibrant colors by Tamra Bonvillain (Doom Patrol, Wayward, Uncanny Avengers), and a slate of variant covers by James Harren, Daniel Warren Johnson, Paolo Rivera, Tradd Moore, and Christian Ward, William Gibson’s Alien 3 is the “what if?” fans have been asking for!

William Gibson’s Alien 3 #1 (of five) goes on sale November 7, 2018, and is available for pre-order at your local comic shop.
