This is a lot more detailed and intense than the Intercessors three-pack I reviewed and painted last time, so before I dive into construction, let’s unbox these miniatures and see what I will be dealing with.

Famous board game “Clue” gets the comic book treatment

There’s a mystery to solve! Today Hasbro, Inc. (NASDAQ: HAS) and IDW Publishing (OTCQX: IDWM) have announced that this June, Mr. Boddy will turn up dead in the pages of CLUE, a brand new comic series inspired by Hasbro’s classic game.

The internationally renowned murder mystery game has already inspired a major motion picture and forthcoming stage production, and now fans will have the chance to follow the adventures of Miss Scarlet, Colonel Mustard, Mrs. Peacock, Professor Plum and other classic characters in a 5-issue comic series from IDW under license from Hasbro. The new series marks the latest collaboration between Hasbro and IDW Publishing, who have a long-standing relationship that has resulted in countless iconic characters gracing the pages of popular comic books, including TRANSFORMERS and MY LITTLE PONY.

“Clue is one of Hasbro’s most iconic brands for good reason – it’s a fun murder mystery concept filled with colorful characters,” said Michael Kelly, Director of Publishing at Hasbro. “IDW has been our trusted partner in the comic world for a long time, and we are thrilled with the way they’ve translated the property to this new medium. Readers will love following along with the story and trying to unravel the mystery of the case.”

“Ask the average person, and they can tell you who the suspects in Clue are,” said Greg Goldstein, IDW Publishing’s President and CCO. “They are household names and have provided countless hours of entertainment for audiences across the globe. We are looking forward to building an intriguing new world with these characters.”

Putting a comedic spin on the classic Clue concept, Paul Allor (Guardians of the Galaxy, G.I. JOE) will be writing the series, joined by artist Nelson Dániel (Dungeons & Dragons, The Cape).

“I am incredibly excited to be working on this project, especially with an artist as talented as Nelson Dániel,” said Allor. “In the grand tradition of the Clue franchise, we’re crafting a fun, exciting and at times completely bonkers story that will keep people guessing until the very end! I truly can’t wait for comics readers to step into the mansion and find out just what we have in store for them.”

The new series opens after the doomed Mr. Boddy is murdered at his own dinner party and everyone is a suspect! Will Boddy’s body be the last to fall, or is it just the beginning? Readers will have to follow the clues to solve the mystery, which deepens even further as issue one will feature three alternate endings!

Depending on which variant cover comic book sleuths pick up, a unique conclusion unfolds. Is it a clue, or a red herring? Readers can collect all the variants (and clues), as well as the main cover by Eisner award-winning artist Gabriel Rodriguez, this June to find out!

NYCC 2015: “Ghostbusters: The Board Game” Preview & Gameplay

At NYCC 2015, Mataio Wilson of Cryptozoic takes the mic to give us a hands-on look of their upcoming “Ghostbusters: The Board Game”. In part one of this two-part video, we learn the basics of what makes this game work and everything you need to know about the pieces, characters, and general gameplay.

In part two of this video, Mataio shows us an in-depth demo of how to play the game, as well as combat against ghosts and gates. This game will be available very soon from select vendors, and I already backed the kickstarter so expect an in-depth review once it comes in the mail! From my time playing it at the con with a group of strangers, the game was pretty easy to understand and within a few turns, I felt I had a solid understanding of the basic elements of gameplay. It’s intuitive and accessible for a board game noob like myself, and I look forward to playing this much more in the near future.

New York Toy Fair 2013: Board Games from “University Games”

“University Games” was at NY Toy Fair 2013 debuting a bunch of new board games for all ages!

The hot new property for University Games in 2013 is the upcoming “World War Z” movie, which will come out with two tie-in games. There will be both a board game and a card game based on the movie, although neither were in the final stages at this time, but you can check out the in-progress pics in the gallery below.

University Games also has new items for Angry Birds, and a few other new games that are currently in development and scheduled for this year. “Murder Mystery Mansion” combines Clue and Guess Who for a unique whodunnit board game that should be challenging for kids and adults alike. Fans of their trivia games will already be familiar with “Smart Ass”, but University Games is now releasing “Dumb Ass”, a version that rewards stupidity and plays slightly differently from its predecessor.

Also coming out this year is a new “Spot the Difference” game that will leave most adults scratching their heads trying to find the differences between two pictures, pirate adventure game with electronic elements (such as a talking skull) “The Treasure of Skull Rock”, the 35th Anniversary edition of “Anti-Monopoly”, and the challenging “Turn Coat” game, that utilizes flipping magnets in a game that is as entertaining to watch as it is to play.

New York Toy Fair 2013: Board Games at “Tactic”

Action figures were not the only thing we were looking for at NY Toy Fair 2013. Board games are always plentiful at the event, and this year, “Tactic” brought out their best, which happened to be based on the hit iOS game, “Angry Birds”.

The “Angry Birds Action Game” takes all the fun of the app, and put it into a board game that lets you smash those green piggies into oblivion (not to be confused with the video game that preceded Skyrim). Additional add-on’s were unveiled at the show, including more birds and blocks to toss at this, as well as the larger version with plush version. “Angry Birds in Space” also had some new board games, including a variation of the classic “Sorry” game. The age ranges from kids to adults, and it would be easy for any age group to have fun playing with these. Card games for traveling and home were also shown off with the Angry Birds leaving their mark there as well.

“Tactic” also brought some of their other classic games for both children and adults, including “Alias”, “Touche”, “Brainbox”, “Draw Out”, and “Mexican Train” to name just a few of the many items in their booth. Check out the photo gallery below to take a look!

You can check out more of their products on the official Tactic website at this link here.
