Diamond Select Signs License for “Pacific Rim Uprising”

2017’s blockbuster season has just started, but the countdown has already begun for one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2018 – Pacific Rim Uprising from Legendary and Universal Pictures. In 2013’s Pacific Rim, director Guillermo del Toro unveiled the first chapter of this spectacular universe of monsters and mechs, in which human-piloted machines called Jaegers rise to defend humanity against gigantic otherworldly monsters called Kaijus. The long-awaited sequel Pacific Rim Uprisingtakes the action to the next level with a sleek new generation of technologically advanced Jaeger mechs; a ferocious new breed of Kaiju monsters and of course a massive new line of toys and collectible merchandise from Diamond Select Toys!

Diamond Select Toys (DST) will offer a wide range of Pacific Rim Uprising products starting in 2018, including Select action figures, Minimates mini-figures, Vinimates vinyl figures, Gallery PVC dioramas, vinyl coin banks, replicas with lights and sound, and housewares. The movie will premiere in U.S. theaters on February 23, 2018, and DST plans to have the first products ship in time for the premiere.

“We’re incredibly excited to work on Pacific Rim Uprising, and we’re honored that Legendary came to us with this amazing opportunity to work on such a thrilling franchise property,” said DST president Chuck Terceira. “The original film was an epic, visually enthralling work of art, and we’ve  had a blast working with the new Jaeger and Kaiju designs, turning them into some of the most detailed products we’ve ever made!”

All of DST’s products are available through independent comic shops, specialty stores and online toy retailers, with selected items also available at Toys”R”Us and toysrus.com. Certain styles and characters will be available at all locations, while some will be exclusive to specific retailers.

In addition to new Jaegers and Kaiju, Pacific Rim Uprising will also showcase exciting new characters, as actors John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Scott Eastwood (Suicide Squad) join returning cast members Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day and Burn Gorman alongside some exciting new faces.

Produced by Guillermo Del Toro, Pacific Rim Uprising will be directed by Steven S. DeKnight, original showrunner for Marvel’s Daredevil on Netflix. DeKnight was also the creator of Spartacus on Starz, and was previously a writer and director on both Buffy: The Vampire Slayer and Angel. Diamond Select Toys previously created products for Marvel’s Daredevil as well as for Buffy and Angel.

Diamond Select reveals first wave of Ghostbusters 2 action figures

Get ready for another series of Ghostbusters figures from Diamond Select later this year, now adding the cast of Ghostbusters 2 into the line.

The Nerdist had the scoop on who is making it into the first wave, which includes Vigo the Carpathian, Ray Stantz, and Louis Tully in his jumpsuit.

The figures will be available in two versions once more, with a more expensive wave available for order through online retailers that will include a facade of the front of the fire house, and a cheaper version in major toy stores without it.

The biggest downside to me of this reveal is the lack of a slime blower with the Ray figure. Only Ray and Winston use them in the movie, and if we are already seeing a Ray here, does this mean we will not get a slime blower figure at all, or will they use this as an excuse to make a second identical figure but wearing the slime blower instead of the proton pack and perhaps making it ‘slimed’ to make it slightly different?

Either way, I am not a fan of that decision and do not need to get a repainted jumpsuit of the same figure I already own twice from the first series. We will see what develops, but most likely do not expect to see reviews of these figures unless I see some slime blowers and a valid excuse for this shameless repaint.

Diamond Select ‘Ghostbusters’ Wave 3 Review

ICYMI here are all three of the figure reviews from the third wave of Diamond Select’s ‘Ghostbusters’ line. This video includes my opinions on Quittin’ Time Ray Stantz, Janine Melnitz, and Slimer. This was not the strongest wave for me since the inception of this series, so is it still worth picking up? Check out the video review above to find out!

Diamond Select ‘Ghostbusters’ Slimer Figure Review

‘He slimed me!’

One-half of the most famous line in the entire movie, Slimer joins Diamond Select’s ‘Ghostbusters’ line as part of wave three. How does onionhead stack up with the rest of the series, and is he good enough to join your collection or should he be left in the containment unit?

Check out the video review above to help you decide!

Diamond Select ‘Ghostbusters’ Janine Melnitz Figure Review

The secretary of the Ghostbusters and love interest of Egon Spengler (and later Louis Tully), Janine Melnitz joins Diamond Selects fantastic ‘Ghostbusters’ line of action figures. How does this version of the bespectacled secretary fit in with the rest of the series and is she worth picking up? Check out the video review to find out!

Diamond Select ‘Ghostbusters’ Quittin’ Time Ray Figure Review

Ray Stantz gets his second figure as part of the third wave of Diamond Selects Ghostbusters line. I have been a big fan of this series so far, but wave three presents some problems for me, starting with a re-deco of a figure from the first wave. This version of Ray has me on the ropes, so check out what I like and didn’t like in this video review.

Egon Spengler enters the fray, as Diamond Select has released Harold Ramis’ iconic character from ‘Ghostbusters’ in wave two of their awesome figures.

Wave two completes the set of the four busters, but how does Egon hold up? Is he good enough to buy or should you leave him to rot with the spores, molds, and fungus on the toy store shelves? Check out the review to find out.
