NYCC 2017: Sideshow Toys – Star Wars & Marvel

Sideshow Toys brought the one-sixth scale awesomeness with them to NYCC 2017, and unveiled new action figures from a few different licenses. In this video, take an up-close look at figures from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Star Wars, including new versions of Rey, Luke Skywalker, and Kylo Ren from Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Han Solo, Jyn Erso, BB-8, Boba Fett, Dengar, Bossk, and characters from Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and Thor: Ragnarok.

Thor just wants to hang out with his work friends in “Thor: Ragnarok” teaser

It’s still a long ways until the movie is out, but Marvel Studios just released their first teaser for the upcoming “Thor: Ragnarok” film and it tells us a lot.

Some crazy stuff is going down in this video, which introduces us to the villain of this movie who takes our Norseman’s greatest weapon away, and somehow leads him into a world run by Jeff Goldblum. Really, stop reading this and just press play in the video above.

I can’t say I was too hyped for either of the previous Thor movies, but this one has a different vibe that has me interested in giving it a glance. There is definitely a different aesthetic, one that is less like a movie and more like an actual comic. A Jack Kirby comic specifically, which seasoned comic readers will be able to sniff out quickly.

“Thor: Ragnarok” will be released on November 3, 2017.

NY Toy Fair 2016: NECA booth tour – Aliens, Predator, DC, Marvel, Terminator, and more – VIDEO

NECA had so much stuff at NY Toy Fair 2016 that I spent over 45 minutes just filming all of their stuff, and had to break it up into four different videos to highlight everything the best way possible. Let’s dive in and get this biggie started!

Our first video is purely about their next figures from their awesome “Aliens” and “Predator” series. Both lines are going strong this year, and their dioramas in the booth continue to be some of the best in the entire event. The seventh Alien series will happen this year along with the 15th Predator wave, which continues to take inspiration from the old Kenner line. “Alien 3” will also get some love this year, so take a look at some of my favorite figures that keep getting better.

In this video, we take a look at the new 1/4 scale 18-inch figures from the Marvel and DC licenses, including versions of Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk from “Avengers: Age of Ultron”, Batman and Superman from the upcoming “Batman VS Superman” film, Harley Quinn from the “Arkham Knight” video game, and a new version of Christian Bale’s Batman in this scale.

NECA has been doing a great job with their 1/6 scale figures as well, as we see in this video that shows some of their other offerings in this size. The Terminator line continues with a new version of Arnold from the first film, the revival of the Rocky figures (which will get new packages and a few new things this year), more figures from Pacific Rim (which may be coming to a close with no sequel in sights), and a surprise figure – Donatello from the 1990’s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” movie! This figure might be one of the best things that was in their booth and went viral during the event, so see it from all angles here.

Finally, more TV & film franchises with figures from Quentin Tarantino’s “Hateful Eight” film, Starz “Ash VS Evil Dead” series, and a few others. The big hit here was the figures from “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventures”, which will come with a paper diorama version of their phone booth. Another showstopper was their “Weird Al” Yankovic figure, which comes with two head sculpts and his accordion.

This video also shows off their new life-sized figures of Slimer, Batman, Arkham Knight, Freddy Fazbear, and a mini-version of the Staypuft Marshmallow Man, which buyers can add to their storefront or put in their home to scare away robbers. I hope they do a giant version of Robocop next!

Hot Toys’ Avengers Assemble at SDCC 2015

unnamed-9The superhero epic blockbuster, Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, has broken box-office records worldwide and its popularity across the globe was unquestionably high. Certainly the movie has brought all superhero fans to the great Marvel Cinematic Universe, it has also given Hot Toys a great opportunity to introduce a wide variety of highly detailed collectible figures for our fans worldwide!

The entire line up of Avengers: Age of Ultron 1/6th scale collectible figures by Hot Toys will be displayed at San Diego Comic-Con 2015 which will officially start this Thursday, so don’t miss the chance to come see them at Sideshow/Hot Toys’ booth (#1929).

A Boy and His Blind Box: Marvel Munnyworld Zipper Pulls

P1060471

It’s a big year for Marvel Comics, with Captain America 2, Amazing Spiderman 2, and Guardians of the Galaxy all making waves in the movie world, and an overwhelming avalanche of Marvel Now! debut issues flooding the market. Kidrobot has been riding the wave of Marvel’s popularity for awhile, and we got a hold of one of their many licensed products, but this one is a twist.

The Marvel Munnyworld Zipper Pulls combine your favorite comic characters with Kidrobot’s distinct Munny design, which is normally a build-and-paint figure that customizers flock to. However, in this case we have pre-made zipper pulls that look so cutesy, your brain might explode.

P1060474

There are 10 zipper pulls in total, which feature two bad guys, seven good guys, and one Deadpool, because Deadpool does whatever he wants. The selection is popular core characters, like Venom, Spidey, Captain America, Thor, and the aforementioned Merc with a Mouth.

The box art is simple but incorporates the zipper pull gimmick cleverly into the packaging, with Spiderman descending on the pull like it’s one of his webs. The art clearly shows you what you are getting, in their very Munny way.

P1060479

Each tiny box comes with a silver bag to ensure the secret identity of your blind box figure remains well-kept from the public. It also features the Marvel Munnyworld logo, which is cool but will not matter after you tear into the packaging. Speaking of, SNIKT!

P1060485

I bought three Marvel Munnyworld Zipper pulls, and I ended up with The Incredible Hulk, Wolverine, and Spiderman! Each zipper pull stands about 3/4 of an inch tall, and is essentially identical to each other in terms of sculpting. That is how a Munny figure works, though, as it is all about customizing. What separates them apart is their paint job, which is smooth and clean and makes it easy to identify each person.

These little figures capture the iconic elements of each Marvel character, whether it’s Hulk’s scowl, Wolverine’s mask, or Spidey’s expressive eyes. Simplistic but effective, they may not be super detailed in any way whatsoever, but more is less with these little dudes, and I think they do the job of explaining the character in one glance extremely well. Plus, these are less than an inch tall, and for this scale, the paint job is perfect.

P1060490

Each Marvel Munnyworld Zipper pull costs $3.99, which is a hefty price for a small zipper pull. However, you are paying for the license, solid construction, and a good-looking and well painted little figurine. This is a blind box that I say is worth buying, but with some trepidation. If you plan on actually using this zipper pull, get it – if you plan on collecting it for the sake of collecting, skip it and get their other Marvel Munnyworld items instead.

Transformers Rescue Bots & Marvel Super Heroes at NY Toy Fair 2014

Playskool was out in full power at the Hasbro event during NY Toy Fair 2014, debuting new additions to their Transformers Rescue Bots line, as well as their Marvel Super Heroes figures.

The Transformers Rescue Bots have added an electronic Optimus Primal (no relation to the Beast Wars product line), which transforms from Autobot into a dinosaur with one button, “Masters of the Ka-Pow” Marvel figures that talk and punch with gigantic soft fists, 22-inch “Epic Optimus Prime” that can hold your human figurines, and a plethora of new Marvel Super Heroes figures, vehicles and playsets that make the perfect gateway drug for your kids to jump into the action figure world! All this and more in the video!

Make sure to stick around till the end to see some bloopers of our booth tour!

Uncle Milton “Marvel Science” Toys – NY Toy Fair 2014

At NY Toy Fair 2014, we toured the Uncle Milton booth, a company whose toys we have looked at before when we reviewed several of the products in their “Marvel Science” line. On this booth visit, we saw all of the new items coming out of this line, with learning toys based on characters from The Avengers, such as The Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man, and a few others.

The Hulk Smashes Through the Ages in His Own Marvel Minimates Box Set

-2

Fans love the Marvel Minimates “”Through the Ages”” box sets because they offer a chance to collect some of the coolest alternate looks for the character featured in each set. But in Diamond Select’s next box set, “Hulk Through the Ages”, you can collect four of the Hulk’s coolest alternate personalities!

From Las Vegas enforcer Joe Fixit to futuristic despot The Maestro, from the peace-seeking Barbarian Hulk to the rage-filled Composite Hulk, the four Minimates in this set represent the Hulk at his best and worst, and thanks to the Hulk’s unique psychiatric problems, each could be called a different character, and not just a costume change. (Although the Maestro does come with an interchangeable cape and helmet, while Joe Fixit has a interchangeable shirt and hair.)

New York Toy Fair 2013: Marvel Comics and Power Rangers from “Zagtoys”

“Zagtoys”, a division of “Zag Wear” was at NY Toy Fair 2013 at the Javits Center with some tiny entries into the licensed character world.

Zag brought out a ton of mini-figures and tiny plushies from “The Avengers” movies, including Captain America, Thor, Loki, The Incredible Hulk, Hawkeye, and others. Also in the Marvel license are “Grab Zags”, which are sticky toys that you can slingshot onto things in the shape of popular comic characters, tiny vehicles that you pull back and let loose, and “Nog’n’z” which are very tiny figures akin to “Squinkies”. These figures will come in a huge variety of characters, including the characters from The Avengers and X-Men, Spiderman, Venom, The Punisher, Ghost Rider, Daredevil, Mysterio, and a ton more in a very stylized form.

“Power Rangers” will also be getting a unique figure treatment, in the form of their “Goo” line. Figures are locked inside a tube of Zag goo, which is similar to ectoplasm if any children of the ’80’s remember that.

Check out the gallery below for more photos from Zag Toys!

You can learn more about Zag at their official website.
