Check Out Our Behind The Scenes Photos From “Joker”

The upcoming “Joker” film has many fans nervous with anticipation. This version of the iconic Batman villain seems like they’ve taken the familiar foe out of Gotham and thrown him into Martin Scorcese’s “Taxi Driver”. It’s gritty, it’s dirty – but it’s really just New York in the 1970’s! Today, we have some very special behind-the-scenes photos for you, thanks to a very generous photographer!

These photos come to us from Rahkim Bryant, who was on set for the filming of “Joker“. Make sure to follow him on Instagram to see video from the set, as well as some of the other productions he has been a part of.

Rahkim was a set photographer for a specific part of the production, and had a few shots of his own that were separate from the work he was hired to do. He was gracious enough to allow us to share these with you, so we hope you enjoy the shots!

“Joker” stars Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Marc Maron, Bill Camp, Glenn Fleshler, Shea Whigham, Brett Cullen, Douglas Hodge, and Josh Pais. It was directed byTodd Phillips.

The film hits theaters on October 4, 2019.

Robert De Niro’s Role In “Joker” Connected To Earlier Scorcese Film Character

Fans who paid attention in the latest trailer for Joaquin Phoenix’s “Joker” movie may have noticed one of the supporting characters in the film. Robert De Niro appears as a television show host, but it turns out this character may be a callback to an earlier film he did with Martin Scorcese.

You can De Niro in the trailer at around 1:54 for a few quick moments as this character.

The name of the character is Murray Franklin, and many are noting that since the film takes place in 1981 that there could be a link between “Joker” and Scorcese’s 1982 film “The King of Comedy”, where he played a mentally deranged comedian named Rupert Pupkin.

De Niro confirmed this connection with Indiewire, saying, “There’s a connection, obviously, with the whole thing, but it’s not as a direct connection as the character I’m playing being Rupert many years later as a host.”

While the ending of “The King of Comedy” has Pupkin landing his dream job before being carted off to jail, this is what separates that role from Franklin in “Joker”. The character is not a direct continuation, but very much in the spirit of Pupkin – what could have happened if he really made it.

De Niro added that it could have actually been Pupkin as the role instead of Franklin, “If they would’ve proposed that to me, I would’ve said, ‘That’s interesting, maybe we’ll try to do that,’” De Niro said. He also said that by making a film like this, “it is connected in a way, as you’ll see.”

Some parallels have already been made with “Joker” in relation to another Scorcese film, “Taxi Driver”. It’s clear that this new iteration of the Clown Prince of Crime has been influenced by the look of movies from that era, and that Phoenix’s Joker has elements derived from a character like Travis Bickle, so I look forward to seeing how these pieces meld in a very ambitious DC movie.

“Joker” hits theaters on October 4.

Put On A Happy Face! First Teaser Trailer Arrives For “Joker”

Smile, the first teaser trailer for Warner Bros. new DC Comics movie “Joker” is finally here!

Directed by Todd Phillips and starring Joaquin Phoenix as The Joker, the movie is about Arthur Fleck, whose rapid descent into insanity is juxtaposed to his clownish demeanor. What happens when a perfectly nice guy is pushed over the edge?

“Joker” seems to be exploring that, making the character sympathetic in some ways, but also very reminiscent of Robert DeNiro’s performance in Martin Scorcese’s classic “Taxi Driver”. This is a Travis Bickle Joker, with a lot of complexities that don’t make him 100% a villain at the start of the movie, but it sure seems like he is going to be over 9000 by the end.

Check out the teaser trailer for “Joker” below:

Phoenix’s performance as The Joker may rival Heath Ledger’s from “The Dark Knight”. It’s very chilling and nuanced, and very unique from how Ledger played the part, but I get the feeling it will be just as compelling.

He may not be the “Clown Prince of Crime” just yet, but it looks like he will be getting there pretty quickly in this very creepy and disturbing trailer.

“Joker” hits theaters on October 4, 2019.

“Batman VS TMNT” Gets A Trailer

Awhile back, we learned of a cartooncrossover between The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and (who knew) Batman. Today, we have our first look at the movie, and all we can say is WOW.

Entertainment Weekly got the scoop on this one, giving us a video that gives us goosebumps every time we watch it.

And here is a bootleg trailer from Youtube that is easier to watch (until the official one is uploaded to that site):

Not only are we getting the ninja turtles and batman together, but we are also getting Batgirl and Damian, plus their rogues gallery of – to name a few – Ras Al Ghul, Harley Quinn, Bane, Me Freeze, Penguin, and The Joker. On top of that, OH HAI SHREDDER!

By the way, the cast for this movie is just as INSANE as this crossover!

Emmy winner Darren Criss (The Assassination of Gianni Versace) leads the voice cast behind the Turtles as Raphael, accompanied by Saturday Night Live‘s Kyle Mooney as Michelangelo, Grace & Frankie‘s Baron Vaughn as Donatello, and The Woody Woodpecker Show‘s Eric Bauza as Leonardo.

John DiMaggio (Adventure Time) voices Mr. Freeze, Tara Strong (Teen Titans Go!) voices both Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants) voices Penguin, Carlos Alazraqui (Reno 911!) voices Bane, Cas Anvar (The Expanse) voices Ra’s al Ghul, Keith Ferguson (Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends) voices Baxter Stockman and Two-Face, Andrew Kishino (The Lion Guard) voices Shredder, and Meskimen voices another character with Scarecrow.

“Batman VS Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” will be released through Warner Bros. Home Entertainment on Digital and on 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack and Blu-ray Combo Pack this spring.

The film will have its world premiere at WonderCon Anaheim 2019 on March 31, 2019.

Jared Leto – Joker No More! DC Movies Moving On

Why so serious? You should be rejoicing, since there’s a new clown prince in town, and it ain’t Jared Leto anymore!

In a report from Forbes, we learned the fate of many DCU movie franchises, including The Suicide Squad series, where we learned the following about Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and Jared Leto’s Joker:

The Suicide Squad sequel, meanwhile, is moving forward as a sort of soft reboot to some extent, and is expected to have a new cast of characters and avoid direct tie-in to the first film’s events. Harley Quinn is not expected to return, and James Gunn’s script will be a new approach and rethinking of the property.

The Mad Love-type Joker and Harley Quinn film has also fallen by the wayside, as has the solo Joker project for Jared Leto’s version of the character from Suicide Squad. With Gunn on board as director, the film has plenty of room to bring a new flavor to the series and to the world of DC films as well.

Fans were not too keen on Leto’s rendition of The Joker, while Robbie fared much better. With the upcoming Birds of Prey movie, it seems that Harley will transition into a much more heroic role, emancipated from the toxic Joker character.

On the plus side, we do have that Joaquin Phoenix “Joker” movie on the horizon, and that is shaping up to be very interesting looking.

As of now, Forbes has the following movies on the outlook for the DCU – Shazam! Joker. Wonder Woman 1984. Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). Supergirl. The Suicide Squad. The Batman. Batgirl. The Trench. Aquaman 2. New Gods. Green Lantern Corps.

Aquaman 2 and Wonder Woman 3 will also surely end up on that list at some point.

What remains to be seen is how the DCU will remain now, as the films are mainly intended to be standalone features, and not necessarily all tied together in one universe.

Are you happy that Leto is out as The Joker for good?
