The Walt Disney Studios has unveiled its upcoming slate following the recent acquisition of the Fox film studios, including changes to previously dated films and a number of major additions.
After kicking off with the record-setting success of Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame, The Walt Disney Studios’ 2019 summer slate includes Disney’s Aladdin on May 24, Fox’s Dark Phoenix on June 7, Pixar’s Toy Story 4 on June 21, Fox’s Stuber on July 12, and Disney’s The Lion King on July 19. Fox 2000’s The Art of Racing in the Rain moves up to Aug. 9, and Fox Searchlight’s Ready or Not will release on Aug. 23, while three films move to later dates: Ad Astra (9/20/19), The New Mutants (4/3/20), and Artemis Fowl (5/29/20).
The Studios’ 2019 slate rounds out with Fox’s The Woman in the Window on Oct. 4 and Ford V. Ferrari on Nov. 15, Disney’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil on Oct. 18 and Disney Animation’s Frozen 2 on Nov. 22, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on Dec. 20, and Blue Sky Studios’ Spies in Disguise, moving from September to Christmas. Among early 2020 titles are Fox’s Underwater on Jan. 10, a new Kingsman movie on Feb. 14, and Call of the Wild on Feb. 21, followed by Pixar’s Onward on March 6 and Disney’s Mulan on March 27.
The updated calendar also sets release dates for major franchises Avatar and Star Wars. With Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker bringing the original Skywalker Saga to its conclusion, three new as-yet-untitled Star Wars films will release on the pre-Christmas weekend every other year beginning in 2022. Four forthcoming Avatar films, expanding the vibrant world of Pandora, will release on the pre-Christmas weekend every other year beginning in 2021. In the holiday corridor for 2020, Fox’sWest Side Story adaptation, directed by Steven Spielberg, will debut Dec. 18 in the pre-Christmas slot, with Disney’s Cruella opening Wednesday, Dec. 23, for the long holiday weekend.
“We’re excited to put in place a robust and diverse slate that lays the foundation of our long-term strategy, bringing together a breadth of films from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, Fox, Fox Searchlight, and Blue Sky Studios to create an extraordinary collection of cinematic experiences for audiences around the world,” said Cathleen Taff, President, Theatrical Distribution, Franchise Management, and Business & Audience Insights, The Walt Disney Studios. “With a strong summer already in place, we are eager to carry that momentum forward over the coming years thanks to a creative wellspring of bold and imaginative stories coming from our world-class studios – including several new chapters of two revered franchises, Avatar and Star Wars.”

Spidey is back, and he is headed on a vacation – one that happens to be interrupted by Nick Fury and… Mysterio?
The latest trailer for the Spider-Man sequel just arrived after most places have dropped the embargo on Avengers spoilers, and it’s perfect timing! A lot goes on in this video, including a look at a new Spidey suit and more!
WARNING: If you haven’t watched “Avengers: Endgame” yet, do NOT watch the trailer below. If you have, or don’t care about spoilers, then give it a view:
SPOILER PART: With the death of Tony Stark in “Endgame”, Peter is still dealing with some serious depression, self-doubt, and trying to fill a large Iron void. Ole’ Web-Head is going to do some maturing in this film, and by the looks of it pretty fast. Plus, a lot of characters seem to know the secret identity of Parker, which makes me wonder if this is all just a Mysterio induced fantasy…
That “more” I mentioned above is the mention of multiverses, which seems to be the start for what could be part of this new phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The idea of a multiverse was teased in “Endgame” when Hulk met with The Ancient One, and discussed the ramification of what happens when something is changed in the past – the splintering of timelines into new realities.
With things uncertain, including what will happen with the X-Men and Fantastic Four, bringing the multiverse officially into the MCU truly expands the possibilities of what could happen over the course of the next decade.
“Spider-Man: Far From Home” stars Tom Holland, Samuel L. Jackson, Zendaya, Cobie Smulders, Jon Favreau, JB Smoove, Jacob Batalon, Martin Star, with Marisa Tomei, and Jake Gyllenhaal.
We all knew the grand finale to phase three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be big, but did anyone expect it to be this huge?
Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Endgame” earned an estimated $1.2 billion worldwide for its opening. This staggering amount makes it the first and only film in cinema history to break the billion dollar mark for its debut.
The record for biggest opening weekend before this was “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”, but this new amount leaves everything in the dust.
The film took in an estimated $350 million domestically this weekend, and an estimated $859 million overseas. Much of the international money can be attributed to China, where it also broke records, and earned over $330 million.
Marvel Studios has made nearly $20 billion at the worldwide box office over the last 10 years.
Who can topple a giant like Disney and Marvel Studios, and ever break a record like that? Time will tell but my guess is no one is touching that number for many years to come.
It’s still technically only been not even a full day since “Avengers: Endgame” was released in US theaters, but it’s already broken some serious records.
On opening night, “Avengers: Endgame” made $60 million at the domestic box office for its preview showings on Thursday night, according to an article from CNN. That makes it the biggest opening night in history.
The previous record was from 2015, when “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” made 57 million on opening night.
To put these numbers into perspective, “Avengers: Infinity War” made $39 million for its preview showings last year before going on to have the highest-grossing opening weekend in history at $258 million. It’s pretty certain that, barring a nuclear apocalypse, Endgame will topple those numbers.
Anaylsists are estimating that the movie could make over 260 million in North America and over $800 million globally this weekend alone. It’s already made over 300 million in China, the biggest opening day ever in that country.
Were you able to see “Avengers: Endgame” on opening night?

It will be hard to replace Chris Evans when he inevitably leaves the role of “Captain America” behind for the next step of his career. He has had many memorable moments over the years, and provided plenty of entertainment with his stoic demeanor, sense of humor, and ability to give some great action. Today, we learned which of those action scenes from his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is his favorite of all time!
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Evans explained that his favorite fight scene he has done as Cap is unequivocally the elevator scene from “The Winter Soldier”. It’s a sequence that has become iconic for the franchise in a movie that arguably has some of the best hand-to-hand fight scenes in any of the MCU films thus far. What is more surprising than his choice of scene is the reason why he chose it:
I’m partial to that fight scene in the elevator. That was the first scene we shot in the second Captain America movie. It was my first time working with the Russos, it was the first time where it felt like Cap was kind of on his own.
In the first Cap movie you know, you really felt like everyone was holding my hand, and the first Avengers movie I just did my best to not get in the way. The second Cap movie is the one that I really kind of felt, I suppose, pressure, and that first elevator fight scene came out really great in my opinion.
Evans has been very proud of his stunt work on the MCU films, and is very active on social media sharing behind the scenes footage of him while practicing choreography. “Avengers: Endgame” should be very intense, and considering it will likely be the last hurrah for Evans’ Cap, we can expect some real bangers in that epic movie.
Remember all the excitement and hoopla over the “New Mutants” movie coming out by Fox? It was their attempt at making something in their Marvel universe, but adding horror elements to separate it from the other films. It’s been ages since we heard any updates about it, and according to one star of the film, the wait will not be ending anytime soon.
Speaking with Rolling Stone, Maisie Williams was asked about the Marvel movie, and was just as baffled as the rest of us. Williams, who was cast to play Wolfsbane but you may know better as Arya from Game of Thrones, said the “New Mutants” movie is stuck in limbo waiting for production to continue. A good portion of blame may be placed on the recent Fox acquisition by Disney, which could also lead to the movie flat-out being canceled.
She doesn’t mince words on the situation. “Who knows when the fuck that’s gonna come out,” she says. There were supposed to be reshoots to “make it scarier,” she explains, but they haven’t actually taken place. She says she saw one of her co-stars, Charlie Heaton, the other day and asked him, “What the fuck is going on with this movie?” He didn’t know either.
She smiles. “Hopefully this interview will make everyone hurry up a little bit!” If it does ever come out, both she and Turner — who plays Jean Grey over in the main X-Men movies — are dying to get their characters together. “It would be ridiculously stupid if they didn’t do that,” Williams says.
The film was originally slated for an August 2019 release, but it’s safe to assume that date is very inaccurate.
“New Mutants” was directed by Josh Boone, and starred Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Henry Zaga, Blu Hunt, and Alice Braga, as well as Antonio Banderas as the villain of the film. I look forward to seeing if this movie ever does get completed, and wonder what sort of mess it will be at that point. Delays like this never make things easy, and factor in Disney taking over – who knows what this movie will be when (and if) it gets finished?
We are days away from the release of “Captain Marvel”, and there has been plenty of hype happening in the past few weeks. We even had a live stream with Goose the cat! Last night, the Captain herself, Brie Larson, hit up a late night talk show where she discussed her feelings about how she wanted viewers to approach the movie.
Larson appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel show to promote Captain Marvel, and was asked about her thoughts on the importance of being the first female-led Marvel movie. Her response downplayed the feminist angle, and focused more on how she wanted the movie to be viewed like any other MCU flick.
Check out the video below, with the transcript following that:
“I don’t know how it’s any different. To be honest, I don’t want it to feel different,” Larson explained. “I’m kind of over the ‘First female blah blah blah,’ and ‘Wow, maybe women can actually do the same things that dudes can do – what a crazy concept!’
“I feel like the more we talk about it, the more we perpetuate the myth that it’s an impossible task. No, if it wasn’t like that before, it’s because it was wrong. That was just wrong. Now we’re just doing what’s natural.
“It’ll be what it is, and I think there’s gonna be lot there for people to digest and feel,” Larson continued. “And hopefully it’ll be the movie that you want to revisit again and again, and as life goes on, it’ll have more to it. I just want to make art that lasts. I want to make art that you grow with. That’s all.”
This sounds a bit like a shift in how she has approached promoting the movie. Back in February, Larson told Marie Claire UK that she has taken steps to make sure the movie’s press junket is not “overwhelmingly white male.” This may be part of what led to the Rotten Tomatoes backlash, although most likely that same reaction would have happened even if she said nothing .
We look forward to the first female-led Marvel movie and hope it paves the way for more, like the Black Widow movie or maybe Ms Marvel eventually. Let’s reserve judgment for when the movie is actually in theaters later this week, and let’s all do our best to look at it with no predetermined biases. More comic book movies are a win for everyone, and if you think “forced diversity” is ruining entertainment, I suggest investing in a time machine to live out your days in the 50’s.
“Captain Marvel” may be hitting theaters soon, but the real star of the movie is Goose the cat.
As part of a promotion leading up to the impending release of Captain Marvel, Marvel Studios surprised us with this live stream of Goose the cat doing… well, cat stuff. He chases things, he naps, and he even gets some scratches from surprise guest Samuel L. Jackson.
Check out the riveting video below:
The name of this cat is Reggie, and he along with three other felines played the role of Goose throughout the movie.
The above screen-grab shows our heroes walking towards something mysterious in the sky. The only thing is, it sure looks like there is an empty space on the right between Bruce Banner and Rhodey. It would appear that something, or someone, was removed from the scene. Who could it be and why?
This isn’t the first time Marvel has fiddled with a trailer, like when they had The Incredible Hulk in the Wakanda Battle from Infinity War, despite him not being there as the green giant, but instead in a Hulkbuster suit.
CBR did a whole video about it, which you can watch below:
What’s your theory on this scene? Is someone missing, or is just poor direction – or a bunch of conspiracy theorists reading too much into nothing?
“Avengers: Endgame” arrives in US theaters on April 26.
