James Monroe Iglehart Raps About Spider-Man

If you combine musicals and geeky things, you get some pretty great results. Case in point, when the cast of Star Trek Discovery did their Rent parody. Or how about today, when we saw James Monroe Iglehart AKA The Genie from “Aladdin” on Broadway, and currently doing double duty in “Hamilton” as Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson, do a rap about Spider-Man!

Iglehart just penned his first comic in “Marvel Comics Presents” issue 3, which star Spider-Man in an interesting tale. It also combines his love of geeky things with his adoration of professional wrestling. For crying out loud, the man just attended Wrestlemania 35 this weekend!

In a video released by Marvel Entertainment from their show “This Week in Marvel”, Iglehart graces us and host Ryan Penagos, AKA Agent M, with a rap about Spidey, and you need to stop what you are doing and give it a watch.

Why The Avengers are Wearing The White Suits in “Avengers: Endgame”

We have seen it all over the place, from the trailers to the action figures and even the LEGO sets. The Avengers have white suits in the upcoming “Avengers: Endgame” movie, but the question remains – why? We finally have an answer for the purpose of these costumes, and why they are so important.

“We call them the team suits,” Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige explained to io9. “And we early on decided [revealing them] was a big differentiating factor between [Endgame] and the other films. The Avengers have never had matching outfits before, [so] we thought it was a very intriguing image to see something that made this film feel new.”

“[We had to] make it feel more than just Infinity War II. Because it’s not,” he continued. “Those team suits add something fresh to it. As does Hawkeye, as does Captain Marvel. As does Scott Lang.”

Do the suits serve any purpose other than aesthetics? That is something we still don’t have an answer to, but this is at least a start.

A theory that is going around now is that the function of the suits is actually for time travel! They are linked back to “Ant-Man and Wasp”, as the tech to make these suits is similar to what Scott Lang’s suit is made of. There’s even a line in Ant-Man and the Wasp about a time vortex in the Quantum Realm, which has made many fans call these outfits “Quantum Realm Suits”. This theory continues that by wearing these suits, the team can travel through time and not be affected by altering reality. Does this mean they could stop “the finger snap” because of these suits and some other yet to be revealed technology?

In the last trailer for the film, we saw the entire new team of Avengers walking around in these suits, minus Rocket and Thor (although these toys claim they will be wearing them). While I prefer the individual outfits, I can see the reasoning behind this and am curious to see them function.

I also wonder if Tony Stark will have a repainted Iron Man armor to match his teammates, since Rhodey’s War Machine armor seems to have these colors in the trailer.

“Avengers: Endgame” hits theaters on April 26.

You Should Be Reading “Weapon H”!

For someone who doesn’t read a lot of Hulk comics, I sure review a lot of them!

Today is different, though, as we take a look at “Weapon H” from Marvel Comics. This 12-issue series wrapped up not too long ago, and continues the story of Clayton Cortez AKA The Hulkverine that began in Greg Pak’s “Totally Awesome Hulk”.

In “Weapon H”, Clayton seeks to make sense of everything that has happened to him since he was first experimented on. Along the way, he is reunited with his wife, makes some new friends, and maybe saves the world a few times. It’s a feel-good, heart-wrenching, and gut-ripping good time that is so out of this world and original, you will be surprised how much fun this book truly is!

Chris Evans’ Favorite “Captain America” Fight Scene Is From “Winter Soldier”

It will be hard to replace Chris Evans when he inevitably leaves the role of “Captain America” behind for the next step of his career. He has had many memorable moments over the years, and provided plenty of entertainment with his stoic demeanor, sense of humor, and ability to give some great action. Today, we learned which of those action scenes from his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is his favorite of all time!

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Evans explained that his favorite fight scene he has done as Cap is unequivocally the elevator scene from “The Winter Soldier”. It’s a sequence that has become iconic for the franchise in a movie that arguably has some of the best hand-to-hand fight scenes in any of the MCU films thus far. What is more surprising than his choice of scene is the reason why he chose it:

I’m partial to that fight scene in the elevator. That was the first scene we shot in the second Captain America movie. It was my first time working with the Russos, it was the first time where it felt like Cap was kind of on his own.

In the first Cap movie you know, you really felt like everyone was holding my hand, and the first Avengers movie I just did my best to not get in the way. The second Cap movie is the one that I really kind of felt, I suppose, pressure, and that first elevator fight scene came out really great in my opinion.

Evans has been very proud of his stunt work on the MCU films, and is very active on social media sharing behind the scenes footage of him while practicing choreography. “Avengers: Endgame” should be very intense, and considering it will likely be the last hurrah for Evans’ Cap, we can expect some real bangers in that epic movie.

“Avengers: Endgame” hits US theaters on April 26.

What Happened To The “New Mutants” Movie? Maisie Williams Has No Idea

Remember all the excitement and hoopla over the “New Mutants” movie coming out by Fox? It was their attempt at making something in their Marvel universe, but adding horror elements to separate it from the other films. It’s been ages since we heard any updates about it, and according to one star of the film, the wait will not be ending anytime soon.

Speaking with Rolling Stone, Maisie Williams was asked about the Marvel movie, and was just as baffled as the rest of us. Williams, who was cast to play Wolfsbane but you may know better as Arya from Game of Thrones, said the “New Mutants” movie is stuck in limbo waiting for production to continue. A good portion of blame may be placed on the recent Fox acquisition by Disney, which could also lead to the movie flat-out being canceled.

She doesn’t mince words on the situation. “Who knows when the fuck that’s gonna come out,” she says. There were supposed to be reshoots to “make it scarier,” she explains, but they haven’t actually taken place. She says she saw one of her co-stars, Charlie Heaton, the other day and asked him, “What the fuck is going on with this movie?” He didn’t know either.

She smiles. “Hopefully this interview will make everyone hurry up a little bit!” If it does ever come out, both she and Turner — who plays Jean Grey over in the main X-Men movies — are dying to get their characters together. “It would be ridiculously stupid if they didn’t do that,” Williams says.

The film was originally slated for an August 2019 release, but it’s safe to assume that date is very inaccurate.

“New Mutants” was directed by Josh Boone, and starred Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Henry Zaga, Blu Hunt, and Alice Braga, as well as Antonio Banderas as the villain of the film. I look forward to seeing if this movie ever does get completed, and wonder what sort of mess it will be at that point. Delays like this never make things easy, and factor in Disney taking over – who knows what this movie will be when (and if) it gets finished?

More Potential “Avengers: Endgame” Spoilers, courtesy of These Action Figures

We are now weeks away from the release of “Avengers: Endgame” in theaters, where many mysteries will finally be solved. There was a lot to unpack in the first official trailer for the movie, including the reveal of some new outfits for the remaining heroes. We saw some LEGO toys recently that offered some potential spoilers and more info about the flick, and today a few more tidbits may have dropped that could be potential spoilers (small ones at best), or might be nothing at all.

Twitter user Andree Strange found these two-pack action figures in a local store, and tweeted out this image:

The image above includes Captain Marvel in her normal outfit, but Captain America in a special blue space suit that seems like a repaint of what we saw in the trailer.

Next to that is Thor and Rocket Raccoon. Neither of those characters were seen wearing the space suits in the trailer, so this begs the question of whether or not they will don those outfits in the movie.

This is all speculation for now, so either consider this potential spoilers, or consider it meaningless since they’re just toys, and you know how toy companies are with making meaningless products from movies.

If you want to see some awesome action figures, check out some of the new Marvel Legends from Hasbro, as seen during NY Toy Fair 2019!

“Amazing Spider-Man” Newspaper Comic May Be Wrapping Up To Make Way For A New Marvel Strip

A long-running Marvel comic you may not be aware of might be finishing up for good soon, as the syndicated newspaper strip “Amazing Spider-Man” is headed into the sunset.

The strip, which has been written by Stan Lee and Roy Thomas and drawn by Alex Saviuk, is ending on March 23. The Sunday Strip on March 17 certainly seemed like a finale, as you can see below.

After the passing of Stan Lee, it seemed that there was a high probability the strip would end to make way for something new. What that “new” thing will be is still up in the air.

The distributor of the strip, King Features Syndicate, will be publishing reruns of some of Spider-Man‘s previous newspaper adventures starting on March 25 until they decide on what is next.

Here is the official statement from King Features Syndicate:

You’ll be seeing some changes in your friendly neighborhood Amazing Spider-Man comic strip over the coming months. Starting on March 25, King Features and Marvel will be re-running some of Spider-Man’s greatest hits.

We’ll be back soon with great new stories and art to explore even more corners of the Marvel Universe for you and your readers to enjoy. We’ll be announcing more about these new adventures in the very near future, so keep your Spidey senses tuned in!

Based on this statement, one can infer that whatever comes next may not be strictly Spidey, but instead open things up to the entire Marvel comic universe.

Alex Saviuk wrote his own statement as well which was posted to Spider-Man Crawl Space, where he wrote, “Now that KFS has posted their statement, yes, the Spider-Man strip as we know it has come to an end. As much as Roy Thomas and I were hoping that the strip would go on to continue Stan Lee’s legacy just as King Features did with The Phantom after Lee Falk died 20 years ago, that’s not the case here.”

“It’s news to me that in the statement it mentioned a new strip starting up possibly months down the road after they reprint some classic Lee-Romita stories from 40 years age, or 30 years ago, whichever they choose. A strip further exploring the Marvel Universe as they say, which doesn’t mean it would or wouldn’t be Spider-Man, and if they were going to feature new creators or if they would call on Roy and me again to create stories in any universe they desire us to go.”

“Time will tell, but in the meantime, it was glorious fun while it lasted, and I learned a huge lesson about not counting any chickens before they hatch. It was difficult inking and sending in my last week of Dailies a few weekends ago… It was like saying goodbye to my old friend all over again.”

“The Amazing Spider-Man” newspaper strip launched on January 3, 1977, and survived for 42 years in the comics section of many papers.
