Barbie Dolls About To Become More Inclusive, With Wheelchairs And Prosthetics

Barbie has been on the forefront of the doll world for decades, and in the past decade has been working to change the image of the toy that had in the past been viewed as a negative representation of what a woman should look like. Today, you can find Barbie dolls in all colors, body shapes, and now with more inclusive details – such as the addition of a doll with a wheelchair and a prosthetic limb!

“For 60 years, Barbie has been a reflection of culture and fashion and that is key to the brand’s continued relevance,” Kim Culmone, Global Head of Design for Barbie, told Good Morning America. “As we design Barbie for the next generation, we are focused on evolving to remain the most diverse doll line in the marketplace.”

“This year our Barbie line will include dolls reflecting physical disabilities in order to better represent the people and the world kids see around them,” Culmone continued. “Our commitment to diversity and inclusion is a critical component of our design process and we are proud that today’s kids will know a different image and experience of the brand.”

The doll that is included with the chair does have an articulated body, so she can easily fit in the wheelchair – but the chair is the type that is used by people with a permanent physical disability. The accessory also accommodates all body types offered within the Made to Move product line (tall, curvy, and original).

Mattel added that it collaborated with Jordan Reeves, a 13-year-old from Missouri with a prosthetic arm and co-founder of “Born Just Right“, to create the doll with the prosthetic limb. By working with Jordan, they sought to create a more accurate representation and ensure a great play experience.

No release date has been announced for the dolls at this time, but expect them to be out later this year.

These dolls will likely be on display during NY Toy Fair 2019, so stay tuned here and to our Youtube page for extended exclusive coverage of the entire event as it happens!

Mattel reveals WWE Basic Series 95 figures – Sonya Deville debuts in line

Mattel has revealed a new wave of WWE figures joining their basic line, and this one includes a female first for the toys.

Joining the line-up in Basic Series 95, Sonya Deville will be immortalized in plastic for the first time. Not only that, but Sonya will also be the chase figure, so collectors should be on the lookout for her black attire as the rare variant.

Also in the line are other fan favorites, including Rusev, AJ Styles, a particularly great looking Bray Wyatt, and a classic Kurt Angle with hair. While I do not typically pick up basic figures, that Bray head makes this a hard one to pass one. And I am always for more Kurt Angle figures with hair, and am pleased with how many different Kurt Angle figures Mattel has released so far. Fingers crossed we get Kurt in a toupee at some point, but that is a story for another day.
