McFarlane Toys Reveals “Stranger Things” Season 3 Action Figures

It seems like Hawkins, Indiana can’t stop being weird, as the third season of “Stranger Things” is on the way this summer. The Netflix smash hit has offered plenty of merchandise to fans, and those collectors can look forward to the first products from season three coming from McFarlane Toys.

Over on the McFarlane Toys Instagram page, the toy company offered a sneak peek at two new action figures from the series. They are Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and Hawkins Police Chief Jim Hopper (played by David Harbour), and it’s worth noting that these are also working prototypes and NOT finished product.

The Eleven figure will include a Starcourt Mall shopping bag, a walkie talkie, and interchangeable hands. Hopper will come with a bottle of wine, revolver, and a walkie talkie. Both are in the 7″ scale, although Eleven will likely be a little shorter than Hopper.

While I don’t collect the Stranger Things figures, I have been very impressed by the entire line. The articulation is also very good, a big improvement over the old days of McFarLane Toys where you were lucky if an arm could move.

I am excited to see what else this upcoming season gives us in terms of action figures. There’s still plenty of cast members who have not had figures yet, so perhaps we can get Max, Steve, or even Joyce!

“Stranger Things” season three drops on Netflix on July 4, 2019.

NY Toy Fair 2019 Review

We were at NY Toy Fair 2019, and saw a ton of things. Here is our review and discussion of some of the things we saw, what we liked, what we didn’t like, best surprises and biggest disappointments!

Check out the video below:

Some of the highlights include our looks at booths from NECA, Super7, Mezco, McFarlane Toys, Diamond Select, DC Collectibles, Playmobil, and more. Plus, discussion on what happened to action figures for girls, the retro gaming arcade craze with a look at four different booths making them, and some of our favorite indy booths.

Quick note: We had the wrong price for the Super Impulse Micro Arcade. We said it would be $11 but that is the wholesale price – retail will be $19.99 – 24.99.

McFarlane Toys at Toy Fair 2019

Check out some of the new figures coming from McFarlane Toys, seen during Toy Fair 2019. This video includes looks at the new Cuphead, Mortal Kombat, Doom, Elder Scrolls, Game of Thrones, Labyrinth, My Hero Academia, Borderlands, Call of Duty, One Punch Man, and Fortnite figures.

We did a live stream with one of their awesome employees, so you can check that out if you want more info on what you are seeing here, although the video quality is very bad due to connection issues (audio is mostly good though so you can hear it just fine). You can watch that here – https://youtu.be/lzP5dmnwjqE

This was not everything shown in the booth, just the newest items. Debuting were Harry Potter figures, but those were not allowed to be photographed. We can tell you they are based off the appearances from the characters as seen in The Deathly Hallows, and will include a Patronus with each figure.

Sorry for the video quality, the Javits Center wifi was very spotty today and I was using my data plan for the other vids, which ran out this morning. All live streams for day 3 and 4 will use the data plan again (and look waaay better).

Todd McFarlane Gives Details About New DC Comics Action Figures – Toy Fair 2019

McFarlane Toys has had a busy week ahead of Toy Fair 2019. With the announcement that they picked up the Harry Potter license, and today’s first reveal of their Game of Thrones figures, things have been crazy for fans. However, the biggest piece of news was that the company grabbed the DC Comics license. For the first time since this story broke, we have some important updates on what that line will look like.

The Toddfather spoke with SyFy for this exclusive interview, where he gave us our first bits of information about this new toy line.

“We’ll go about it the same way anyone would, really,” Todd explained. “If I handed you the license, who would you choose? Hopefully, there would be an 80 percent overlap in the characters I would choose and you would choose, then we’d pick those five to 10 characters to do for sure”.

“We’ll mix in some new characters that have grown in stature, say, for instance, Aquaman with his hit movie, and take a look with what’s happening in pop culture and the publishing end of things as well.”

He continued, “I think down the line is where the fun beings. Maybe sometime later we do a McFarlane Batman. I don’t know if it’s been attempted but I’m the only one who knows that those capes are supposed to be doing.”

McFarlane also told SyFy that DC and Warner Bros have given him the green light to flex his own creative muscles on the characters, just nothing too dramatic:

“We’re not talking major redesigns, just a bit of a tweak here and there,” he says. “So far, they’ve been flexible, saying it seems fun and that we’ll talk about it.”

We also learned from this article that the scale will be 6″ to 12″, and they could be based on any aspect of the DC multiverse, including video games. With the recent reveal that they also picked up the Mortal Kombat license, could we perhaps get some crossover toys?

There have been a lot of reveals leading up to NY Toy Fair. Some of the highlights so far have included Hasbro teasing us with a first glimpse of their new Overwatch figuresDiamond Select purchasing Gentle GiantHasbro’s “Star Wars: Galaxy of Adventures” figures,  Mezco’s new One:12 Captain Marvel figureMego announced new 14″ Star Trek figures, and a new line based on characters from Stan Lee’s vault, and Neca debuted a great looking Shredder and Karate Kid set.

First Look at McFarlane Toys “Game of Thrones” Action Figures – Toy Fair 2019

McFarlane Toys has been in overdrive for the past two weeks, dropping huge announcements like picking up the DC comics and Harry Potter licenses. One thing we have been waiting for has been the big reveal of their upcoming Game of Thrones action figures. Sure, we had seen 3-D rendering, but today we finally have our first glance at how they will really look.

The first wave of toys will feature Jon Snow, Arya Stark, Daenerys Targaryen, and The Night King. Take a look at them below:

Hopefully we get an up close look at them during Toy Fair this weekend, but from this quick peek, these figures are stunning. The attention to detail from McFarlane Toys is always top notch, but what they have done with the outfits is especially beautiful.

McFarlane has also been adding more articulation to their figures over the years. Gone are the days of staction figures, as now they are all completely ball jointed and fully poseable, meaning you figure photogs are going to have fun with these.

The last company to make action figures of Game of Thrones was Funko, which were overall nice to look at, but were filled with quality control issues. This seems to be the norm for most Funko figures, and why the company seems to be moving away from that, especially since their six-inch line seems all but dead at this point.

You can pre-order the figures at this link here, and get them when they are released on May 10:

Jon Snow

Arya Stark

Daenerys Targaryen

Night King

So far, McFarlane Toys has announced new products for My Hero Academia, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and DC comics. Expect some of this product to be revealed during NY Toy Fair this weekend.

Add “Mortal Kombat” to List Of New Licenses for McFarlane Toys – Toy Fair 2019

Just when you thought McFarlane Toys was finished making announcements before NY Toy Fair 2019, they went ahead and dropped a biggie!

Over on their McFarlane Toys Gaming facebook page, the company posted the image below, with the vague caption, “Another brand is coming to McFarlane Toys…. Any guesses?”

Of course, it doesn’t take a genius to figure this one out! The picture is one of the the most recognizable things in gaming, as well as most quotable part, from the ultra-violent fighting game “Mortal Kombat”.

The big question is next is who will they make for the first wave? With so many unique character designs over the years, they will have a gamut to choose from, between modern versions and classic incarnations.

So far, McFarlane Toys has announced new products for My Hero Academia, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and DC comics. Expect some of this product to be revealed during NY Toy Fair this weekend.

McFarlane Toys and DC Team Up to Create Collector Figures Starting in 2020

It’s been a very busy news week for toys, and just when I think it will calm down for a few hours, the hits just keep on coming. Earlier today, McFarlane Toys revealed another new license they are adding under their rapidly expanding umbrella – DC Comics.

Whoever would have said to me that Todd McFarlane, father of Spawn and head honcho at Image Comics, would be making DC comics action figures would be ridiculed on sight. Yet, here we are today, and I think the temperature in Hell may have just became a bit chilly.

Here is the info from the official press release:

Batman, Superman and the entire roster of DC’s iconic characters have a new place to hang up their capes and cowls. McFarlane Toys, an award-winning toy company, announced today they have entered into a three-year global licensing agreement with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, on behalf of DC, to release DC Multiverse collector figures in both mass and specialty retail spaces. Beginning early 2020, McFarlane Toys will bring dozens of the iconic DC comic books, video games and feature films’ near-endless stable of characters to life with 6” – 12” ultra-posable action figures, corresponding accessories and vehicles branded DC Multiverse.

“This partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products and DC will be great fun for my company, and a chance to deliver products that millions of fans of the DC brand have been asking for,” said Todd McFarlane, Owner and CEO of McFarlane Toys. “The DC universe has captivated the world and to be able to play in that ‘sandbox’ now makes me feel like a kid all over again. I can’t wait to see what we can accomplish together.”

The DC Multiverse collector figures and related toys will be available at major retail locations beginning in 2020.

It was announced earlier this year that DC would be ending their partnership with Mattel, who has been producing their toys for years. As of now, Spinmasters has also picked up the figure license along with McFarlane, and we will have to wait until Toy Fair next year to see what both of them do with it.

This new is hot off the heels of McFarlane Toys announcing they will be doing the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, as well as My Hero Academia.

McFarlane Toys Releases More Details On New Harry Potter Figures – Scheduled for Fall 2019!

Earlier this morning, we heard the news that McFarlane Toys has picked up the Harry Potter license, but we were not sure in what capacity. Thanks to a new press release from the company, we have some concrete details, and they sound great!

McFarlane will be producing a range of toys from The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, featuring action figures with a diverse size range (in-scale Hagrid?).

Here is the official press release:

McFarlane Toys, a global leader in the action figure industry, and Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP) announced today a partnership to bring a new line of premium collectible Wizarding World action figures to  mass and specialty retailers.

McFarlane Toys will create collectible action figures ranging in size from 6-inch to 12-inches based on characters and creatures from the Wizarding World, including  characters and creatures from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films.

McFarlane Toys’ first wave of fully articulated action figures will include fan-favorite characters Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, and Lord Voldemort as seen in the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows films and Buckbeak the Hippogriff, from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. All the figures will feature character-specific accessories and will retail between $19.99 and $24.99 at retailers nationwide.

“The Wizarding World captures the emotions of its fans unlike any other,” said Todd McFarlane, owner, and CEO of McFarlane Toys. “Taking the iconic imagery from the Wizarding World and creating figures for everyone to take home is quite an honor for me.”

McFarlane Toys, known for its beautifully sculpted and painted figures and collectibles, is excited to partner with one of the most world-renowned franchises. As avid Wizarding World fans themselves, the McFarlane Toys team is  ready to create the most realistic, detailed and character accurate figures for fans of all ages.

We also learned from this press release that McFarlane Toys will be unveiling the Wizarding World action figure prototypes at the 2019 Toy Fair New York, February 16-19, 2019. We will be there and have an appointment to tour their booth, so you can bet we will bring you the best Harry Potter toy coverage that the internet can offer!

McFarlane Toys Announces New Harry Potter Action Figure Line Ahead Of NY Toy Fair 2019

There has been a lot of big announcements leading up to NY Toy Fair 2019, which begins this Saturday. However, this new one is magical!

Over on McFarlane Toys IG page, the toymaker posted a pic of a golden snitch, with the caption, “A new brand is joining McFarlane Toys in 2019, and trust us – it’s a keeper. Think you know what it is?”

Here is the post via their official Mcfarlane Toys Instagram:

Great pun aside, this is a pretty huge get for McFarlane Toys, whose biggest properties these days include their Walking Dead and Stranger Things toys. The company has also been dabbling in anime, and we may see some My Hero Academia items at this event.

Whether or not McFarlane will have any of these items at NY Toy Fair 2019 is still to be determined, so stay tuned later this week for our coverage of their booth once the big event kicks off on Saturday!

Last year, SH Figuarts revealed their own line of Harry Potter figures, and Star Ace also has a line of more realistic figures out now too. This new product from McFarlane Toys is bound to be priced easier for collectors and more accessible to mainstream buyers.

There have been a lot of reveals leading up to NY Toy Fair. Some of the highlights so far have included Hasbro’s “Star Wars: Galaxy of Adventures” figures, Mezco’s new One:12 Captain Marvel figureMego announced new 14″ Star Trek figures, and a new line based on characters from Stan Lee’s vault, and Neca debuted a great looking Shredder and Karate Kid set.

UPDATE: Around 1 PM EST we got an official press release from the company, giving more details about what we can expect, and when we can see it.
