Kidrobot Megatron & Cobra Commander Vinyl Review

Continuing their post-Toy Fair 2018 coverage, Matthew and Andrea review some goodies they got during the big event. This time, it’s Kidrobot’s 7-inch vinyl figures of Megatron and Cobra Commander, based on IDW Comic’s “Transformers VS GI Joe” comic series by Tom Scioli and John Barber. Matthew is a huge fan of the limited series, and Andrea is about to dive into it but has been a lifelong Transformers lover, so they were very excited to dig into these vinyls! Are these worth picking up to add to your collection? Find out in this review!

New Transformers toys at NY Toy Fair 2014

Hasbro is always more than meets the eye when it comes to their Transformers toys, and at NY Toy Fair 2014, there was a little less in some ways – less pain in the butt transformations.

The company has decided to try a new route this year to engage younger fans by creating some quick converting transformers toys with one-step changers, like the enormous electronic Grimlock seen in the video. Serious fans are not being left in the dust, with new figures in their Generations line, larger-scale Leader and Voyager class figures, and special 30th Anniversary figures with classic looks for your favorite characters. There are also new Construct-bots, which let you create your own robots with whatever pieces you want.

2014 is a big year for both classic Transformers and plenty of tie-in’s for “Transformers 4: Age of Extinction”, with over 60 new bots scheduled to hit the shelves this year in their more high-end lines, so stay tuned for more info as we get closer to their releases.

Takara releasing Megatron that transforms into a Sega Genesis

Transformers never really had a good video game tie-in in the US, and barely had a good one in Japan, probably until the last few years. They also never had a tie-in with a video game, until now.

Seibertron has reported that at Wonderfest 2014 in Japan, Takara has revealed a brand new Megatron figure that transforms into a Sega Genesis.

In reality, it is the Sega Mega Drive console (different name, but same system), and is an official product from Takara Tomy licensed by Sega. Unfortunately, Megatron (maybe we should call him Segatron) will not be able to be plugged in and played Alex Kidd, but the resemblance is uncanny between the console and a video game system has never looked so menacing (except for the demonic Virtual Boy).

No release date or price is known yet, but I will be picking this up immediately. I got addicted to the Transformers Masterpiece series thanks to Soundwave, and it is truly a gateway drug into buying more Autobots and Decepticons. Here is hoping that we get a Super Nintendo version of Optimus Prime!

“The Loyal Subjects” announce details for Transformers mini-figures

“The Loyal Subjects” have announced details on their new line of blind-box vinyl Transformers mini-figures, which debuted in February at NY Toy Fair 2013.

The figures will be 3″ tall with seven points of articulation (Shoulders, Wrists, Head, Torso, Legs), and will feature detailed sculpts based on the characters with character-specific weapons and accessories. The first line will feature Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Grimlock, and Jazz from the heroic Autobots, and representing the Decepticons will be Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave, and Thundercracker.

Three chase figures will also be floating around, with a rarity of 1/24, 1/48 and 1/72 depending on the figure. Who those characters are, we have no idea (my bet is going to Shockwave as one of them). The figures will retail for around $13 per figure, with a case going for around $104.

New York Toy Fair 2013: GI Joe and Transformers vinyl figurines from “Loyal Subjects”

“The Loyal Subjects” trekked out from California and braved the big snowstorm to make it to NY Toy Fair 2013, and brought plenty of goodies to show off.

The vinyl toy makers brought their line of blind box GI Joe vinyl figurines, which includes Duke, Cobra Commander, Destro, Storm Shadow, Snake Eyes, Snow Job, Zartan, Gung Ho, and some random mystery characters.

Debuting for the first time were their blind box Transformers line, which includes Optimus Prime, Megatron, Soundwave, Jazz, Bumblebee, Grimlock, and a few other surprises not shown. The company also had their custom skateboards available, their designer “Chaos Bunnies” figures, and a multitude of great looking t-shirts that I would, and may have to, kill to get my hands on. Same goes for the Transformers figurines, but company owner Jonathan Cathey is personally guarding those to keep them out of my paws.
