It was a long weekend, but it was a great one. Four days of lugging around camera equipment through the Javits center, back pain, herniated discs, dehydration – all worth it to see the brand new products on display during NY Toy Fair 2019!
This was my 10th year covering the industry-only event (my first time was for Tomopop in 2009), and it was an interesting year in many ways. This was the first year without a Toys ‘R’ Us of any kind, and every company was affected by this loss, no matter how big or small they were.
In spite of that, many companies had a strong showing this year, focusing on quality more than quantity. Our extensive coverage this year broke a personal record for me, resulting in nearly 60 videos and live streams in five days.
I randomly decided on Saturday morning to start doing live streams in addition to how I normally cover the event. It was a learning experience for me, since I had never done this before ever, and something I plan to do more often. The first booth I did was Lego, and you can see how much I resemble a deer in headlights.
Once I got my feet wet, I decided to keep going and went to my first stop at every Toy Fair – NECA. They always have so much great stuff, from Aliens to horror franchises, and now Godzilla and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This is one of my personal favorites, and I can also brag to you and say that I have the Sgt. Apone and Scorpion Alien now, so expect reviews of that very soon.
Here is part three of my coverage of Super7, which includes a look at some of my most anticipated Toy Fair figures – the Toxie from Toxic Cruasders, and the Masters of the Universe figures based on the original live action movie!
This was another video I enjoyed making, although we did not live stream this one due to my data plan being dead. Zach Oat walked us through all the new stuff from Diamond Select, and there were a lot of winners this year. I love their Marvel and DC lines, in particular the X-Men action figures. I will be definitely picking up their Psylocke, who debuted during the event.
They also had new action figures and statues from Westworld, Castlevania, Sonic the Hedgehog, John Wick, Godzilla. Also, for the first time ever, DST has Star Wars products, thanks to their purchase of Gentle Giant.
The Overwatch figures have been my most anticipated reveal for this event, and they did not disappoint. Wave 1 includes Tracer, Sombra, Mercy, Phara, Ana, Lucio, Blackwatch Reaper, and Soldier 76. We will also be getting a deluxe Reinhardt with his enormous shield.
Heads up, my video is the only one to show what the back of the figures look like. I know it’s a weird thing to brag about, but I’m happy I got to see every part of these toys.
I was pleasantly surprised to see Boss Fight Studio in the house, and also very excited. This was their first year at the trade show, but they have been making waves for years now. It was great to see the Bucky O’Hare figures in person, as well as the Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. I see so many 1/18 collectors raving about.
I had to check out Playmobil, especially since they had the new Ghostbusters sets on display. We got a first look at the Ecto-1A, and it will be one of my favorite vehicles of the year.
We reviewed the Playmobil Ecto-1 when that first came out and were in love with it, along with the rest of the line, but the Ecto-1A is even better. I could not believe not only how good it looked, but how impressive the lights and sounds were. And wait until you see how they did the marquees on the side of the car.
This year, we decided to do an unboxing with the founder of the company, and we learned a lot of new things about who the company is and what they hope to accomplish. This company was there before Hasbro and Mattel jumped in and tried to make action figures for girls, and while those two companies have seemingly given up on that notion – IAmElemental perseveres.
The folks at New Wave Toys really impressed me with their 1/6 scale fully-functional arcade cabinets. Best of all, the Street Fighter 2 mini-cabinet has a second player controller hidden in the back. The game looks good and really does work – I even tried it myself in the video.
Hardcore gamers will enjoy the challenge of trying to beat the game on something this small, and also the authenticity of the appearance of these cabinets.
I am an avid collector of Mattel’s WWE figures, and I drooled at seeing the debuts here. It was a royal rumble of new figures, including more Retro figures, and the first look at their new Ultimate figures. That series will launch with a new Ronda Rousey and WCW Halloween Havoc Ultimate Warrior, which will be must-haves for my collection.
Finally, check out my live stream with Quantum Mechanix. This was a company that a lot of folks had never heard about while I was streaming, and I am happy to be the first to share the company with them.
These guys make very cool prop replicas, ships, 12-inch action figures and other things, but what I love the most is their Q-Figs. Imagine a Funko Pop, but now imagine it with better sculpting and storytelling involved in the pose and setting of the cute characters. Check out the video to see what I mean.
This is not everything we saw, of course, but a good portion of it.
I also enjoyed seeing the new Ectotron Transformer in person, and consider myself very lucky to have grabbed a pre-order before they sold out. Likewise, while I am not a big Marvel Legends collector, they are going to be hard to resist in 2019, especially with their Alex Ross inspired line.
We also checked out the new products from Star Wars, Marvel Legends, Power Rangers, Fortnite, Playmates, Wicked Cool Toys, Cryptozoic, Mego, McFarlane Toys, Kotobukiya, Arcade1Up, Jazwares, and many more, so check out this link to browse all of our videos.

Mezco Toyz has been teasing us for weeks with NY Toy Fair 2019 reveals, and today is no different. With the event only a few days away, this announcement might be the biggest, as the NYC-based toymaker has unveiled an entirely new line – 5 Points!
Toy Fair is less than a week away and it’s time for another Toy Fair 2019 product reveal! Here’s a sneak peak at a brand new line we will be debuting at Toy Fair: 5 Points.
So, why the name 5 Points? Because these figures being done in the same vein as Super7’s ReAction figures and other retro-style toys, with five points of articulation. Those points are a rotating head, and arms and legs that can move up and down, and that’s it.
For now, it appears they only have the Hanna-Barbera license, but that’s still quite a large universe to get through. The two figures seen above are Birdman and The Ghost of Elias Kingston from “Scooby-Doo, where are you?”, which can only mean the entire Scooby Squad is not far behind (and more figures of Velma from Scooby-Doo is fine by me).
It’s quite a big change from their One: 12 line, which has brought Mezco a ton of attention from figure collectors since it debuted a few years ago. However, if there is one company who can do this retro figure and make it awesome, it’s Mezco.
This is an exciting announcement, but it’s highly doubtful that any of these products will be in display at Toy Fair since the images say “Sculpt in Progress”, and it may be too early in production to show anything more concrete, as licensors still need to give their final seal of approval.
Today via their mailing list, Mezco Toyz previewed their newest six-inch figure – Captain Marvel! Based on Brie Larson’s version of her in the upcoming movie of the same name, we don’t have any other details to go on yet other than this photo:
Now we just have to wait another two weeks for NY Toy Fair to happen so we can see all of the new One:12 figures coming from Mezco in the near future. I am also curious if they will have a Brie Larson head to go with this.
Of course, my big dream is a new Nick Fury figure with Samuel L. Jackson’s face and two swappable heads – one with eyepatch and one without.
Stay tuned for our Toy Fair coverage to see all of the reveals!
Happy Batman Day! Batman (or rather, The Bat-Man back when he was first created) made his first appearance in Detective Comics #27 in May, 1939. 79 years later, his story is still being retold in print and on screen, a true testament to the Dark Knight’s status as a cultural icon. Batman Day honors this legacy built by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, and many companies are doing something for this momentous occasion.
Mezco Toyz has done some killer work with their Batman figures in the One: 12 collective, and today they opened up preorders for two figures, a purple suit variant of Catwoman, and Sovereign Knight Batman, which is the second part of their Batman action figure trilogy telling the story of the caped crusader.
Most exciting is that Mezco gave us a sneak peek of some new Bat-related items coming down the pipe. First up, is a One:12 collective figure of Commissioner Gordon, complete with Bat Signal:
They also shared the video below, teasing their take on the Batmobile:
No date on when we can expect either of these items, but Mezco tends to take these things slow and steady. You should have plenty of time to gather organs to sell (yours or others) to prepare for the enormous Batmobile, so start saving!
* This website does not condone harvesting organs to pay for toys. Pyramid schemes, however…
In the meantime, if you are on the fence about these figures, we suggest you take a look at our review of the One:12 Collective Batman figure we got during Toy Fair 2018. Prepare to be blown away!
Mezco Toyz just unveiled details on how to get this brand new variant of their great Iron Man figure. This time, it’s wearing the iconic blue Stealth Armor, and is an exclusive to Previews World available for $90 plus S&H.
Here is the info about this new figure via Mezco:
Stealth Armor Iron Man: Tony Stark’s armory of Iron Man suits houses a multitude of high-tech threads but when a night out is in order, be it a cloaked mission or partying at the club, his Stealth Armor is the ‘what-to-wear’ for the evening.
Designed with real metal components, this exclusive Iron Man figure takes on a darker metal look with a bright red arc reactor in the middle of his chest, which has a light up feature. Iron Man’s articulated visor can be worn in the standard closed position or opened to reveal the face of Tony Stark. A wide variety of accessories are also included such as a chest beam, booster effects, hand blast effects, diffuser missiles, and six (6) interchangeable hands.
Here is more info on the original Iron Man figure via Mezco’s website:
Iron Man, the secret identity of Tony Stark, blasts his way into the One:12 Collective. Billionaire inventor and arms manufacturer, Tony Stark, suffers a severe chest injury while being held captive by enemy forces. Stark is forced to build a weapon of mass destruction, but instead creates a powered suit of armor that keeps his damaged heart beating and helps him escape captivity. Later, Stark augments his suit with weapons and other high-tech devices at his company, Stark Industries; and creates the suit to protect the world as Iron Man.
The One:12 Collective Iron Man features a newly sculpted One:12 body specifically created for this figure and is designed with real metal components. His articulated visor can be worn in the standard closed position or opened to reveal the face of billionaire Tony Stark. The figure comes complete with an array of blast effects, as well as gauntlet rockets and hip rockets that can be interchanged with his hip discs. His signature arc reactor, the source of Iron Man’s power, has a light up feature (battery included).
