Trailer Revealed for Star Trek DS9 Documentary “What We Left Behind”

We have been waiting since early 2017 for this day to come, and we are at the finish line for the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine documentary “What We Left Behind” to be released.

Made by showrunner and director Ira Steven Behr, “What We Left Behind” was successfully funded via crowdsourcing with over 9.5K backers, and features the first fully remastered HD footage from the show. Today, the trailer was finally dropped, and we have a better idea of what we can expect from the film.

Check out the trailer below:

IGN got the scoop about what to expect on the DVD:

  • The film presents a fascinating in-depth look at the past, present, and future of a series whose dark, edgy take on Gene Roddenberry’s vision was often misunderstood when it premiered, but has grown into a beloved mainstay in the Star Trek franchise.
  • Featuring extensive new interviews with the cast and crew of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as well as newly remastered HD footage from the television series, What We Left Behind also focuses on the original writers of the series as they craft a brand-new episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, developing what would be the eighth-season premiere if the show were to return to the air today.
  • Following the feature presentation, a taped roundtable discussion with directors Ira Steven Behr, David Zappone, and the film’s producers will provide audiences with a comprehensive look at the making of the film, the show’s fans and the series’ ongoing appeal to Trekkers of all ages. Fathom attendees will also receive an exclusive double-sided poster with the theatrical poster art for What We Left Behind on one side, and an original illustration from the film on the other. (Quantities limited, while supplies last.)

Fathom Events is bringing What We Left Behind to more than 800 movie theaters in the U.S. on Monday, May 13, 2019. They will be available to purchase starting on April 12.

Check Out This Footage From NY Toy Fair 1994

NY Toy Fair 2019 is less than two weeks away, and we have been stoked for months. It’s my favorite event of the year, and one of my biggest content output weeks as well.

While scouring Youtube recently for Toy Fair things, I ran into this Youtube channel that has tons of uncut footage from Toy Fair’s past, and wanted to show you Nerd Newsies how things used to be back in the distant year of 1994.

Yes, the same year that “Pulp Fiction” and “The Lion King” hit theaters and “Friends” debuted on NBC, Toy Fair 1994 was the place to be. It was a good year for toys (I was 10 at the time), and it’s exciting to see many of my favorites on display in some of these videos.

“Star Trek: Deep Space Nine”, “Exo Squad”, and “Seaquest” (remember them?) from Playmates
“Skeleton Warriors” and “Superhuman Samurai Cyber Squad” from Playmates
Various dolls from Galoob
Pez and Creepy Crawlers. Never knew Pez had a booth at Toy Fair, but I vaguely remember them trying to get into that market since I collected Pez dispensers in that era.

Erector sets and Toy Biz “X-Men” figures!!!!

All of this footage was filmed by Ira H. Gallen , who runs a website called TV Days. For years, Ira has been archiving historical things that he loves, including toys. He has even appeared on national TV shows to discuss this, including my personal favorite where he talked about 1994 Star Trek toys.

Check out his Youtube channel for more info on him. Hopefully, we run into him at NY Toy Fair 2019 this year and get to meet the man with all these wonderful toys!

Captain Kirk Crosses Paths With Fellow Captains Picard, Janeway, and Sisko in “Star Trek: The Q Conflict”

For the first time ever, the beloved crews of four Star TrekTM incarnations – The Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager – will be pitted against one another in IDW’s mind-blowing comic book miniseries, Star Trek: The Q Conflict. Debuting in January, this epic six-part event features the writing team of Scott and David Tipton (Star Trek: The Next Generation – Mirror Broken) and art by David Messina (Cloak and Dagger, Star Trek: Countdown).

When a dispute between godlike beings threatens the galaxy, it will take all of Starfleet’s best captains to stop them. James T. Kirk, Jean-Luc Picard, Kathryn Janeway, and Benjamin Sisko must go head-to-head in a competition rigged by the arrogant Q and his nigh-omnipotent cohorts.

“This is it – the biggest Star Trek series ever, spanning starships, centuries, and galaxies!” says Scott Tipton. “All of Starfleet’s most legendary officers join together for the first time against some of the greatest threats they’ve ever faced. It’s like nothing you’ve seen before!”

David Tipton adds, “But it wouldn’t be Star Trek if it wasn’t also about character, and with so many Starfleet legends crossing paths for the first time ever, The Q Conflict will give readers the opportunity to see all their favorite characters in a brand-new light.”

“Being at work on Star Trek: The Q Conflict is like coming home after a five-year mission away,” says David Messina. “To draw characters like Spock and Picard at a time that’s so exciting for the Star Trek franchise? It’s awesome.”

Star Trek: The Q Conflict #1, under license by CBS Consumer Products, will be available with multiple covers: connecting regular covers by David Messina, and retailer incentive variants by George Caltsoudas and J.K. Woodward.
