“Star Trek” Reboot TV Series To Start Filming In Fall, Will Air on CBS’ Digital Pay Platform

The upcoming Star Trek reboot has finally revealed some details about the series, and some of them may be cause for concern to some fans.

CBS has announced that filming for the series will begin this Fall in Toronto, Canada. CBS TV Studios announced the news on their Twitter:

Additionally, according to Trek Core, during CBS first-quarter earnings conference call, CBS president Les Moonves explained that the series will not be on broadcast television, but will be part of their All Access streaming service next year.

[“Star Trek”] will be episodic, week by week. It won’t be the Netflix [way].

CBS All Access is the only place to get the entire ‘stack’ of CBS shows, and this January, we will begin streaming our first original series. All Access will be the home of the first original “Star Trek” series in eleven years.

[The premiere episode of] “Star Trek” will debut simultaneously on All Access and the CBS television network, with subsequent episodes exclusively on All Access.

We have one of the best creative teams behind this show, and we’re confident that its large, passionate fan base will lead to substantial, profitable subscriber growth.

Once again, every other streaming service was after “Star Trek.” We could have cashed in for a lot of money, selling it to Netflix, Amazon, Hulu… they were all very interested in it.

We know that “Star Trek” is a high-priced, quality product, and – knowing that we will have very strong international sales which we are already getting in – it’s important that we show everybody that All Access is a priority for us… and there are a lot of very rabid “Star Trek” fans who are going sign up for it.

Unfortunately, that means fans will have to join their subscription based service to access the series, rather than watch it on free TV. International markets may fare better, but for North America – this is our fate.

Bryan Fuller, who started his writing career with the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager TV series, is co-creator and executive producer of the new series. Shepherded by Alex Kurtzman who also exec produces, the series is slated to premiere in January 2017 with a preview broadcast on CBS followed by an exclusive run in the U.S. on CBS All Access.

Simon Pegg Comments on “Star Trek Beyond” Reshoots

STAR TREK BEYOND co-writer Simon Pegg spoke with Collider recently about the film’s post-production status, in particular the reshoots that happened in March in SoCal.

Pegg had this to say about the situation:

This always happens in filmmaking. Often, when you get into the edit and you look at the movie and think, “Oh, it’s a shame we didn’t get that reaction shot” or, “Maybe in this scene we could have brought in [some] aspect of the developing plot.”

So, having a cut of the movie, we were able to assess – and thankfully, given the freedom – to go in and do touch-up kind of things on what we already had, which is a great opportunity.

Of course, when you write a screenplay and you film the whole thing, [the running time] is usually a lot longer than you anticipate it being, and invariably it’ll have to come down. When you cut stuff out of a movie, sometimes you have to go back in and make sure the [story flow] is all shored up.

It was just a bit of that, really. A very routine, very quick, and fun thing to do since we got to see each other again.

I think the term ‘reshoot’ often feels like “Oh, you’ve got to do it again?” When in actual fact it’s more like pickups, more like looking for moments where the film can just be finessed.

So Trek fans have nothing to worry about, it is all part of the magic of making a movie!

Pegg also added that the film is in good hands with new director Justin Lin at the helm, and will not be “Fast & Furious in Space.”

NY Toy Fair 2016: Diamond Select booth tour – Batman, Ghostbusters, X-Files – VIDEO

Diamond Select is a booth with so many different properties, they always get at least two videos from us. This year at NY Toy Fair 2016, they had so much stuff we had to break it up into three.

Apologies for the scratchy audio here, my microphone was beginning to die here, so I have tweaked the audio as much as possible to make it easier on your ears.

Narrated by Zach Oat, this first video features toys, statues and other collectibles of Gotham, iZombie, The X-Files, TMNT minimates, action figures of The Muppets, and a variety of merchandise from Batman: The Animated Series.

In part two, we see more from DST, including their latest merchandise from The Justice League, Star Trek (including some new ships and figures like KHAAAAAANNN!!!!), and Ghostbusters.

And finally, the third video features the new statues from Marvel Comics, including the new female Thor and Lady Deadpool, plus Spiderman, Captain Marvel, The Incredible Hulk, and Deadpool. More Marvel Minimates are also coming on the way, with plenty of love for the X-Men and Spiderman. DST also showed off their new vinimates, larger-scale minimate figures in dramatic poses, with the first line including The X-Files, Ghostbusters, Nightmare before Christmas, Aliens and Predator.

Speaking of Aliens, check out the new minimates and vehicles from Aliens at the end of the video.

Not shown in the video (because photography of them was prohibited) were prototypes from Diamond’s upcoming Quentin Tarantino toy properties, including Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction.

NY Toy Fair 2016: Mezco Toyz booth tour – One:12 Collective, Marvel, DC, Mortal Kombat – VIDEO

Mezco Toyz may have just set a new standard in excellence when it comes to six-inch action figures, and when you see this video with their new One:12 Collective line, you might say the same.

We already covered Mezco extensively at their pre-Toy Fair press event, so if you want to see much more details about all of their figures, especially the One:12 Collective, you should check out our post here, which also features all of these toys out in the open and not behind glass.

At NY Toy Fair, the company debuted their first big 1/12 scale vehicle (excluding the Lawmaster motorcycle), the Batmobile from “Batman VS Superman: Dawn of Justice”. This was teased before the event, but seeing it in person is something else. We also see their six-inch figures from Marvel, DC, Star Trek, and a few other licenses.

We also learn more about what is next for this growing line of figures, and I expect very big things from Mezco as the year goes on.

Our second video with them takes a look at some of their other figures, including items from Mortal Kombat, Gigantor, Beetlejuice, Batman Returns, Hellraiser, Child’s Play, and their Living Dead dolls.

NY Toy Fair 2016: Mattel’s Kubros – Star Trek, HALO, Destiny – VIDEO

During NY Toy Fair 2016, Mattel revealed that Megabloks were not the only construction set they were producing, and have now added Kubros into their line-up.

Kubros are part of the Megabloks family and are stylized (Minecraft style, in fact) building sets so that you can create a block style character of some of your favorite pop-culture icons. Two waves been scheduled so far, with each one having six figures in the wave, including the T-800, Hellboy, He-Man, Skeletor, Spock, and characters from Destiny, HALO, Minions, and Assassin’s Creed to name a few.

Please excuse my scratchy audio here, my microphone was beginning to die at this point and started to have issues on this day.

NY Toy Fair 2016: Quantum Mechanix – Firefly, Star Trek, DC, Supernatural – VIDEO

Quantum Mechanix has been under our radar for too long, and NY Toy Fair 2016 was the perfect place to get to know this great company.

Take a look at some of their newest offerings, including new replicas of famous ships from nerdom including the Keaton era Batwing, Star Trek ships, and The Milano from “Guardians of the Galaxy”. QmX also showed off their 12-inch Firefly Malcolm Reynolds figure, as well as Spock and Captain Kirk, plus their Q figures from DC Comics that I now need to have on my desk.

Fans of Supernatural can now look forward to statues of Sam and Dean Winchester from this company, and hopefully much more if these sell well (so you saltgunners, hunters, and wayward sons need to jump on these). There is plenty more to see so check out the video get the 411 from Quantum Mechanix.

I apologize for the random part of this video that has no audio and is only b-roll (which is thankfully very short). As I learned, banging out 48 videos in five days can lead to some mistakes, and luckily this was the only one I made that I could have prevented. My apologies for that, but I hope you enjoy the rest of the video.
