DC Collectibles Announces PVC Statue Line and More for August 2018

DC Collectibles is kicking off the New Year in a big way by revealing a fresh new slate featuring two unique statue lines. Taking center stage in August 2018 will be a first-ever PVC statue line from DC Collectibles titled DC Core. The line will present striking new interpretations of fan-favorite DC characters and will be offered at an attractive $50.00 price point. DC Collectibles will also release an inventive multi-part statue set that showcases the Teen Titans characters as seen in the famous NEW TEEN TITANS #1 cover by legendary artist George Pérez. Additional DC Collectibles items debuting in August 2018 include a Designer Series Batman mini statue by Brian Bolland, a Batman: The Animated Series Harley Quinn expressions pack and a DC Cover Girls: Batgirl statue based on the artwork of superstar artist Joëlle Jones.

Charting into new territory, DC Core is DC Collectibles’ first line of 9″ scale statues produced in PVC. The character designs and attitudes are conjured up by DC Collectibles’ executive creative director Jim Fletcher and his award-winning design team, and will feature dazzling, dynamic poses. Each figure will stand upon a character-specific base that will include the same intricate details as the statue itself.

“DC Collectibles is always looking for new ways to bring our rich portfolio of DC Super Heroes and stories to life, and PVC allows us to create complex, exaggerated poses we’ve never tried before,” explained Fletcher. “With PVC, we don’t have to worry as much about breakage, since the material is more durable than resin, and we can offer these statues at a lower price point without sacrificing quality. Fans will be amazed at the great attention to detail given to each character, and we hope they are as thrilled with the DC Core designs as we are.”

The Joker is the first DC character to be transformed into a DC Core statue, and the spectacular sculpt by David Pereira features the Clown Prince of Crime holding his prized Joker cane on top of his equally iconic “HAHAHA”-themed base. The Joker statue hits stores August 2018 and will be followed by Batman, Batgirl and Wonder Woman statues later this year.

DC Collectibles will also release the first two characters from the company’s 6″ scale New Teen Titans multi-part statue set. The set stars the entire superhero team featured in George Pérez’s popular NEW TEEN TITANS #1 cover—Starfire, Robin, Beast Boy, Cyborg, Kid Flash, Wonder Girl and Raven—and the versatile bases allow fans to become their own storytellers. Fans can display one or a few of their favorite characters independently, or for those wanting to own the whole set, the bases fit perfectly together to recreate the iconic Pérez cover image. Each sold separately, Starfire and Robin are the first characters to hit shelves in August. The remaining characters will be released at separate times throughout the year.

More info on DC Collectibles “Artist Alley”vinyl statue Line

Designer super hero toys — meet street art. Announced over the weekend via an exclusive reveal at designer toy and comic convention, Five Points Festival, DC Collectibles is teaming up with some of the most talented independent artists in the industry to launch the new line, DC Artist Alley.

Inspired by the popular comic convention experience, DC Artist Alley will serve as an artist-focused vinyl statue line that merges indie design with the most iconic characters in the DC Universe. Serving up highly detailed, limited edition PVC figures, the first wave of releases will launch in 2018 and will feature a reimaging of seven classic characters – three from each artist, with more artists to follow.

“The motivation to create a line celebrating radical new artists stems from years of visiting cons and being impressed by the raw talent and artwork on display,” says Jim Fletcher, Executive Creative Director, DC Collectibles. “When we decided to launch DC Artist Alley, we approached visionaries we felt would best represent the line, while bringing their own creative signature to our classic characters.”

Designs will include illustrator Chris Uminga’s offbeat interpretations of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, Barcelonian-bred artist, Sho Murase’s stylish designs for Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn, and HaiNaNu “Nooligan” Saulque’s exaggerated designs on The Joker, Batman and Harley Quinn. Each figure will also be accompanied by a print showcasing its original artwork.

NY Toy Fair 2017: “Madame Alexander” dolls

Madame Alexander is another one of those booths that I will often walk by during Toy Fair, and might occasionally take a few photos. This year, however, I took a shot of those DC characters that you see above and put it on Instagram, and it exploded to become my all time most popular post (incidentally, are you following my instagram?).

At NY Toy Fair 2017, Madame Alexander had their usual dolls, but with a twist. Joining them are a whole bunch of different series based on DC Comics characters, including the spectacular ones you see above based on The Joker, Harley Quinn, and The Penguin (monocle not pictured, but she has one in her jacket). This was an interesting turning point for the doll company, who seem to be trying to please their traditional audience while also taking some risks and heading into a younger market to get some new fans. I would say the gambit is paying off!

NY Toy Fair 2016: DC Multiverse figures – VIDEO

As part of the Matty Collector event at NY Toy Fair 2016, Mattel showed off their next line of DC Multiverse figures. Included in this new wave is the Mutant Leader and armored Batman from Frank Miller’s “The Dark Knight Returns”, The Joker, a Doomsday Superman hybrid that I do not know the name of at this time (but feel free to let me know in the comments), figures based on the TV show versions of Flash, Arrow, and Supergirl, and a massive spoiler in the way of Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor from “Batman VS Superman: Dawn of Justice” with no hair and in prison clothes. So, anyone complaining about Lex having hair in the film can STFU now. The build-a-figure in this line will be the giant Doomsday figure seen here.

Also on the way but previously shown are more from “The Dark Knight Returns” including Batman, Superman, and one of Batman’s soldiers.

NY Toy Fair 2016: Mattel’s Suicide Squad figures

At the Matty Collector event during NY Toy Fair 2016, Mattel unveiled their anticipated action figures for the upcoming “Suicide Squad” movie. This lineup includes two 12-inch figures (with limited articulation) of an unmasked Deadshot and Joker, along with the first wave of six-inch action figures that include Katana, Killer Croc, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot (with alternate Will Smith head), The Joker, and a gas mask wearing Batman.

Noticeably absent from this presentation was Harley Quinn, whose only representation in figure form that we have seen thus far was at DC Direct as a statue. Not sure why Mattel is keeping their Harley under wraps, but I am sure we will see her in the second wave of this line, along with the rest of the team.
