Playmobil was rocking it this year during NY Toy Fair, with the debut of two expansive lines of licensed products. Specifically, the highly-anticipated “Ghostbusters” line, and their new line from “How to Train Your Dragon 2” animated movie.
The products from “How to Train Your Dragon 2” include the Berk Fortress, a few sea-faring vessels, and of course – plenty of dragons! Many of the playsets and vehicles also include missile firing actions, a feature that old timers like me always enjoy seeing in their modern toys. Check out the video above to see all of the goodies up close and personal from Playmobil’s “How To Train Your Dragon 2” line.
Who ya’ gonna call? Apparently, Playmobil, since they just made one of the best firehouse playsets since the original Kenner line.
We got to spend some quality time with all of the new playsets from Playmobil from one of our most beloved movie franchises of all time, “Ghostbusters”, and it did not disappoint. Frankly, it was hard to walk away after getting to play with the massive firehouse, and the Ecto-1 that lights up and makes the siren noise. Somehow I didn’t try to walk away with the entire table, but here is what saw so that you too can marvel at this beauty!
Meet the next generation of Skylanders, but with improvements!
Made by TOMY, “Light Seekers” take the concept innovated by Skylanders and takes it to a new level by including a fully articulated action figure independent of the game, and can easily play like a motion controller in the app that plays with the figures. You have to see the video to really appreciate how cool this concept is and how well it works as an app and an action figure. I was never big on Skylanders because I couldn’t do anything with the statuettes, but ‘Light Seekers’ brings in several new levels of play with and without the app.
NOTE: This was not shot with my usual gear and was filmed on a cell phone because I did not have the opportunity to set my gear up for this.
Check out this interesting product I saw while wandering around during NY Toy Fair 2017. Made my Relevant Play, “Mad Mattr” (yup, it has no ‘E’ in the name) is a special building dough that never dries out, doesn’t stain clothes or carpets, and wheat, gluten, and casein free. Made in six colors, we get a demo from some of the booth reps about how this product works, including the very cool part about how these can be turned into Lego-style blocks to really change how you build with bricks.
Eric Mayse AKA Cornboy from Four Horsemen Studios was at NY Toy Fair 2017 along with the rest of his team as they showed off the second wave of their “Mythic Legions” figures, which are currently being funded via Kickstarter.
Eric gives us a look at some of the new figures, storyline from “The Advent of Decay,” and some inside information on the production of this very epic wave. We also get a really big scoop on the future of the line and kickstarter, so make sure you watch until the end to find out.
Support the official kickstarter at this link here! I did, and I hope you will too!
Mattel just won NY Toy Fair 2017. Go home, everyone else.
Meet the new 1/10 scale electronic Batmobile from the upcoming “Justice League” movie. In this video, we get a private tour of the inner workings of this amazing vehicle that is a huge departure from what Mattel has made in the past. With a price point of around $250, this figure will fit action figures inside it, and features electronic lights and sounds, smoke (yes, the car smokes as you will see in the video), moving wheels and machine guns, hydraulics, an app to control the vehicle, and other working parts that make this one of the craziest things I have ever seen at Toy Fair, and one of the potentially hottest toys of the year when this gets released.
Mattel brought plenty of new WWE figures and roleplay items out for NY Toy Fair 2017, and here is your walk-through of some of what was on display. The big item here is the new real-scale ring that Mattel is making to compete with Wicked Cool Toys rings, and this Mattel one features electronics, a new commentator’s table and chairs, and an exclusive Goldberg figure that will never be made again. Also being shown was some new Tough Talkers figures and the accompanying ring for the figures, championship belts, and figures from the latest Elite series.
Not pictured here is the second wave of their WWE Zombies figures, which were only shown during the Collector’s event the night before. Wave two includes Seth Rollins, Sasha Banks, AJ Styles, Kevin Owens, Brock Lesnar, and Stone Cold Steve Austin. They also debuted a new line of NXT action figures, which includes some familiar faces along with a few debuting wrestlers.
PLEASE NOTE: There was a weird audio glitch here, so some viewers may have trouble hearing the sound. It was expored in mono instead of stereo, so if you do not hear any sound, try using headphones.
Steamforged Games brought their new ‘Dark Souls: The Board Game’ to NY Toy Fair 2017, and we were lucky enough to get an extended gameplay demo with one of their booth reps and expert players, Matt. We jump into the demo to see how a boss fight unfolds, and what you can expect for when it comes to playing this very challenging game.
Madame Alexander is another one of those booths that I will often walk by during Toy Fair, and might occasionally take a few photos. This year, however, I took a shot of those DC characters that you see above and put it on Instagram, and it exploded to become my all time most popular post (incidentally, are you following my instagram?).
At NY Toy Fair 2017, Madame Alexander had their usual dolls, but with a twist. Joining them are a whole bunch of different series based on DC Comics characters, including the spectacular ones you see above based on The Joker, Harley Quinn, and The Penguin (monocle not pictured, but she has one in her jacket). This was an interesting turning point for the doll company, who seem to be trying to please their traditional audience while also taking some risks and heading into a younger market to get some new fans. I would say the gambit is paying off!
I walked by this display a lot during NY Toy Fair 2017, and it caught my eye each time I did. Watch this video and ask yourself – how could you not want to have this Calico Critters world as part of your collection? I have seen these little anthropomorphic animals before in toy stores and liked looking at them, but seeing what happens when you build a whole world out of them – now my wallet is in trouble!
