NY Toy Fair 2017: WWE figures by Mattel

Mattel brought plenty of new WWE figures and roleplay items out for NY Toy Fair 2017, and here is your walk-through of some of what was on display. The big item here is the new real-scale ring that Mattel is making to compete with Wicked Cool Toys rings, and this Mattel one features electronics, a new commentator’s table and chairs, and an exclusive Goldberg figure that will never be made again. Also being shown was some new Tough Talkers figures and the accompanying ring for the figures, championship belts, and figures from the latest Elite series.

Not pictured here is the second wave of their WWE Zombies figures, which were only shown during the Collector’s event the night before. Wave two includes Seth Rollins, Sasha Banks, AJ Styles, Kevin Owens, Brock Lesnar, and Stone Cold Steve Austin. They also debuted a new line of NXT action figures, which includes some familiar faces along with a few debuting wrestlers.

PLEASE NOTE: There was a weird audio glitch here, so some viewers may have trouble hearing the sound. It was expored in mono instead of stereo, so if you do not hear any sound, try using headphones.

NY Toy Fair 2017: “Madame Alexander” dolls

Madame Alexander is another one of those booths that I will often walk by during Toy Fair, and might occasionally take a few photos. This year, however, I took a shot of those DC characters that you see above and put it on Instagram, and it exploded to become my all time most popular post (incidentally, are you following my instagram?).

At NY Toy Fair 2017, Madame Alexander had their usual dolls, but with a twist. Joining them are a whole bunch of different series based on DC Comics characters, including the spectacular ones you see above based on The Joker, Harley Quinn, and The Penguin (monocle not pictured, but she has one in her jacket). This was an interesting turning point for the doll company, who seem to be trying to please their traditional audience while also taking some risks and heading into a younger market to get some new fans. I would say the gambit is paying off!

NY Toy Fair 2017: Calico Critters

I walked by this display a lot during NY Toy Fair 2017, and it caught my eye each time I did. Watch this video and ask yourself – how could you not want to have this Calico Critters world as part of your collection? I have seen these little anthropomorphic animals before in toy stores and liked looking at them, but seeing what happens when you build a whole world out of them – now my wallet is in trouble!

Super7 has been a big part of the toy industry for a few years now, making waves when Funko scooped them up to make their ReAction line of action figures. Now the two companies have parted ways, and fans are benefiting big time from this! Josh from Super7 walked us through their booth to tell us all the new stuff happening with the company, and it looks like 2017 will be a big year for them and collectors.

In part one of the tour (seen above), we learn about more of their vinyl offerings, as well as their expansive line of keshi M.U.S.C.L.E.-style figures, which now features Alien and Aliens, Street Fighter 2, Robotech, Shogun & Mazinger, The Worst (their own line which will be getting a stop-motion show soon from Stoopid Buddy Studios), Mega Man, and a third wave of their amazing Masters of The Universe figures.

In part two, we learn all about their plans for the six-inch Masters of the Universe action figures (a license they picked up from Mattel once Matty Collector folded up), more ReAction-style figures from Aliens, Masters of the Universe, Street Fighter 2, Hellboy, Toxic Avenger, Robotech, Planet of the Apes, and Mazinger Z. We also get a look at their new ReAnimated line, with a first look at the Predator and Alien figures from this series.

I know there are a lot of huge Ben 10 fans out there, and 2017 is going to be a great year for action figures and collectibles for this show.

NY Toy Fair 2017: “Voltron: Legendary Defender” figures from Playmates

Playmates is making some awesome figures, roleplay weapons, and giant robots from Netflix’s “Voltron: Legendary Defender” series, and you have to see them.

Many of these are already on the market now, but they are very cool to see in person. I love the new action figures of the Voltron squad and the baddies, but the real show stopper is the Lion’s that are in scale with the figures. You’re going to have a hard time fighting the urge to pick those up – I know I already am.

Playmates also had new figures, vehicles and other items from ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ and the upcoming new Ben 10 cartoon, which you can check out at those links, or check out all of our NY Toy Fair 2017 coverage on this massive 52 video Youtube playlist!
