NY Toy Fair 2017: “Voltron: Legendary Defender” figures from Playmates

Playmates is making some awesome figures, roleplay weapons, and giant robots from Netflix’s “Voltron: Legendary Defender” series, and you have to see them.

Many of these are already on the market now, but they are very cool to see in person. I love the new action figures of the Voltron squad and the baddies, but the real show stopper is the Lion’s that are in scale with the figures. You’re going to have a hard time fighting the urge to pick those up – I know I already am.

Playmates also had new figures, vehicles and other items from ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ and the upcoming new Ben 10 cartoon, which you can check out at those links, or check out all of our NY Toy Fair 2017 coverage on this massive 52 video Youtube playlist!

First Trailer For “Voltron: Legendary Defender” Is Go – And I’ll Form The Viewer!

After months of waiting, Netflix has finally released the official trailer for their upcoming “Voltron: Legendary Defender” series!

Set to premiere on June 10 with all episodes streaming from the start (with the first episode being a full hour with next ten episodes clocking in at 22 minutes), Netflix released the first full trailer for the show today. In addition to a much clearer sense of the reboot’s action and humor, the new trailer also affords our first look at who the team will be battling.

Here is the official synopsis from Netflix:

Five unsuspecting teenagers, transported from Earth into the middle of a sprawling intergalactic war, become pilots for five robotic lions in the battle to protect the universe from evil. Only through the true power of teamwork can they unite to form the mighty warrior known as Voltron: Legendary Defender.

Doing voice-over work on the show is:

Jeremy Shada (Adventure Time) as Lance
Bex Taylor-Klaus (Scream) as Pidge
Josh Keaton (Green Lantern: The Animated Series) as Shiro
Tyler Labine (Tucker and Dale vs. Evil) as Hunk
Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead) as Keith
Kimberly Brooks (Mass Effect) as Princess Allura
Rhys Darby (Flight of the Conchords) as Coran

The series is executive produced by Joaquim Dos Santos of Legend of Korra and Avatar fame. While we wait for June 10, stay tuned for more from Voltron: Legendary Defender!

First image of Netflix’s “Voltron” revealed

Awhile back, we learned that Netflix had plans to reboot the “Voltron” animated series as “Voltron: Legendary Defender.” Today, we have our first full-color look at what the new giant mecha will look like, and I am impressed!

USA Today got the big scoop on the show and provided us with this info:

Legendary Defender centers on five Earth teenagers — Keith, Lance, Hunk, Pidge and Shiro — who are thrown into the middle of an intergalactic battle and become the last line of defense for Arus and other planets against an evil alien force led by King Zarkon.

Whereas most of the original characters were nondescript space explorers, the main players in the new series will have backstories, and “ a real purpose for being on this mission and getting involved with Voltron in the first place,” says Dos Santos.

As for the tone of the show, the creative team describes it as covering a “wide age group by giving Voltron an epic Game of Thrones feel with some humor, and upping the danger level.” Lauren Montgomery added, “Not everything is solved by Voltron alone. Sometimes they need to beat something just as the lions. Sometimes they just do it as themselves fighting as men.”

Produced by DreamWorks Animation, The first 13 22-minute episodes will hit Netflix later this year, but lucky fans at WonderCon in California will get the first look at the footage later today.

Dreamworks gives first look at new “Voltron” series with first image

Fans of ’80’s nostalgia have much to look forward to this year, as the beloved “Voltron: Defender of the Universe” animated series is getting a reboot, and we finally have our first tease of what the titular mech will look like.

The Nerdist got the lucky scoop on this piece of news, which you can see below:

There is your first peek at what Voltron will look like once he is fully assembled (a bit curvier and more organic-looking than his original incarnation), as well as the sleek logo. Nothing else is known about the show at this time, but the word on the street is that this is planned to be a “re-imagining” of the original series. Additional announcements are expected to come out in the coming weeks.

The show is attributed to a deal between Dreamworks and Netflix with the intent to double their original content in 2016, which also will include a show based on Guillermo del Toro’s “Trollhunters” project. The deal will also include new shows based on pre-existing Dreamworks shows, as well as older films in their library.

“Voltron: Legendary Defender” is the first time since 2011 that we have had a new Voltron cartoon, the last one being Nickelodeon’s “Voltron Force,” which sadly only lasted a single season.
