Stephen King fans only have a few more months to wait until the remake of “It” concludes in theaters. When last we saw The Losers Club, they had fought off Pennywise for the first time, but with “It Chapter Two”, decades have passed, and according to the new trailer – the fight is about to begin again.
Check out the new video below:
Because every 27 years evil revisits the town of Derry, Maine, “It Chapter Two” brings the characters—who’ve long since gone their separate ways—back together as adults, nearly three decades after the events of the first film. Can they take down Pennywise once and for all? We will have to wait and see… or read the book, which came out several decades ago.
“It Chapter Two” stars Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, and Bill Hader, as well as the returning kids from the first film including Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, and Jack Dylan Grazer. Bill Skarsgård is also back to reprise his role as Pennywise the Dancing Clown.
Expect Pennywise and The Losers Club to return to the big screen on September 6, 2019.
Another day, another reveal for Warner Bros and Netherrealm Studios’ upcoming fighter, “Mortal Kombat 11“. The character announcements keep on coming, and today we get our first look at a fan favorite – Kitana!
Kitana is the princess of the otherworldly realm of Edenia and the biological daughter of Queen Sindel, as well as an adopted daughter of the evil Emperor Shao Kahn. More importantly, she fights with a pair of sharp fans that she uses to slash her opponents faces with.
Don’t believe me? Check out the trailer below, and make sure to stay until the end to see her fatality:
Fans who paid attention in the latest trailer for Joaquin Phoenix’s “Joker” movie may have noticed one of the supporting characters in the film. Robert De Niro appears as a television show host, but it turns out this character may be a callback to an earlier film he did with Martin Scorcese.
You can De Niro in the trailer at around 1:54 for a few quick moments as this character.
The name of the character is Murray Franklin, and many are noting that since the film takes place in 1981 that there could be a link between “Joker” and Scorcese’s 1982 film “The King of Comedy”, where he played a mentally deranged comedian named Rupert Pupkin.
De Niro confirmed this connection with Indiewire, saying, “There’s a connection, obviously, with the whole thing, but it’s not as a direct connection as the character I’m playing being Rupert many years later as a host.”
While the ending of “The King of Comedy” has Pupkin landing his dream job before being carted off to jail, this is what separates that role from Franklin in “Joker”. The character is not a direct continuation, but very much in the spirit of Pupkin – what could have happened if he really made it.
De Niro added that it could have actually been Pupkin as the role instead of Franklin, “If they would’ve proposed that to me, I would’ve said, ‘That’s interesting, maybe we’ll try to do that,’” De Niro said. He also said that by making a film like this, “it is connected in a way, as you’ll see.”
Some parallels have already been made with “Joker” in relation to another Scorcese film, “Taxi Driver”. It’s clear that this new iteration of the Clown Prince of Crime has been influenced by the look of movies from that era, and that Phoenix’s Joker has elements derived from a character like Travis Bickle, so I look forward to seeing how these pieces meld in a very ambitious DC movie.
” … But after taking the last few weeks to discuss, everyone involved felt this was the right move. The team also did not want to feel as if it was disrespecting Smith, who helped bring this character to life for the first time, by replacing him with Elba. While many believe chances are still slim for a future return, the decision keeps the door open for Smith to possibly come back in future films, since his original reason for leaving had to do with scheduling and not creative differences.”
Warner Bros. representatives had no further comments about this news at the time of posting.
With this piece of news, only three characters expected to return in the sequel – Harley Quinn as Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang, and Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller. Gunn is in the process of casting the remaining team members with production expected to start in the fall.
No other casting news has been announced yet, but with plans to start filming this summer, I am sure we will hear some info sooner than later.
Smile, the first teaser trailer for Warner Bros. new DC Comics movie “Joker” is finally here!
Directed by Todd Phillips and starring Joaquin Phoenix as The Joker, the movie is about Arthur Fleck, whose rapid descent into insanity is juxtaposed to his clownish demeanor. What happens when a perfectly nice guy is pushed over the edge?
“Joker” seems to be exploring that, making the character sympathetic in some ways, but also very reminiscent of Robert DeNiro’s performance in Martin Scorcese’s classic “Taxi Driver”. This is a Travis Bickle Joker, with a lot of complexities that don’t make him 100% a villain at the start of the movie, but it sure seems like he is going to be over 9000 by the end.
Check out the teaser trailer for “Joker” below:
Phoenix’s performance as The Joker may rival Heath Ledger’s from “The Dark Knight”. It’s very chilling and nuanced, and very unique from how Ledger played the part, but I get the feeling it will be just as compelling.
He may not be the “Clown Prince of Crime” just yet, but it looks like he will be getting there pretty quickly in this very creepy and disturbing trailer.
Entertainment Weekly got the scoop on this one, giving us a video that gives us goosebumps every time we watch it.
And here is a bootleg trailer from Youtube that is easier to watch (until the official one is uploaded to that site):
Not only are we getting the ninja turtles and batman together, but we are also getting Batgirl and Damian, plus their rogues gallery of – to name a few – Ras Al Ghul, Harley Quinn, Bane, Me Freeze, Penguin, and The Joker. On top of that, OH HAI SHREDDER!
By the way, the cast for this movie is just as INSANE as this crossover!
Emmy winner Darren Criss (The Assassination of Gianni Versace) leads the voice cast behind the Turtles as Raphael, accompanied by Saturday Night Live‘s Kyle Mooney as Michelangelo, Grace & Frankie‘s Baron Vaughn as Donatello, and The Woody Woodpecker Show‘s Eric Bauza as Leonardo.
John DiMaggio (Adventure Time) voices Mr. Freeze, Tara Strong (Teen Titans Go!) voices both Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants) voices Penguin, Carlos Alazraqui (Reno 911!) voices Bane, Cas Anvar (The Expanse) voices Ra’s al Ghul, Keith Ferguson (Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends) voices Baxter Stockman and Two-Face, Andrew Kishino (The Lion Guard) voices Shredder, and Meskimen voices another character with Scarecrow.
“Batman VS Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” will be released through Warner Bros. Home Entertainment on Digital and on 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack and Blu-ray Combo Pack this spring.
The film will have its world premiere at WonderCon Anaheim 2019 on March 31, 2019.
Based on the Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics miniseries by James Tynion IV and Freddie Williams II, the film will see the turtles meeting Batman via a transdimensional encounter, and feature our heroes teaming up to face Batman’s deadly rogues gallery.
This is the first time these worlds have collided in animation, but the two have met before in that aforementioned crossover comic between IDW and DC Comics from 2015.
The film’s voice cast features Troy Baker (The Last of Us, Batman: Arkham Origins) as both Batman and The Joker (making him the first actor to ever take on both roles in one project), Darren Criss (the Emmy winning star of The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story) as Raphael, Kyle Mooney (Saturday Night Live) as Michelangelo, Baron Vaughn (Grace and Frankie) as Donatello, Eric Bauza (The Woody Woodpecker Show) as Leonardo, Rachel Bloom (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) as Batgirl, Tom Kenny (Spongebob Squarepants) as The Penguin, John DiMaggio (Adventure Time) as Mr. Freeze, Tara Strong (The Powerpuff Girls) as both Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, Carlos Alazraqui (Reno 911!) as Bane, and Cas Anvar (The Expanse) as Ra’s al Ghul.
Knowing the cast does give us a bit more info about plot details, especially since we have five villains for the heroic group to deal with. How they all tie together remains to be seen.
Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will arrive on 4K, Blu-ray, and Digital late this spring.
It’s been a very busy news week for toys, and just when I think it will calm down for a few hours, the hits just keep on coming. Earlier today, McFarlane Toys revealed another new license they are adding under their rapidly expanding umbrella – DC Comics.
Whoever would have said to me that Todd McFarlane, father of Spawn and head honcho at Image Comics, would be making DC comics action figures would be ridiculed on sight. Yet, here we are today, and I think the temperature in Hell may have just became a bit chilly.
Here is the info from the official press release:
Batman, Superman and the entire roster of DC’s iconic characters have a new place to hang up their capes and cowls. McFarlane Toys, an award-winning toy company, announced today they have entered into a three-year global licensing agreement with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, on behalf of DC, to release DC Multiverse collector figures in both mass and specialty retail spaces. Beginning early 2020, McFarlane Toys will bring dozens of the iconic DC comic books, video games and feature films’ near-endless stable of characters to life with 6” – 12” ultra-posable action figures, corresponding accessories and vehicles branded DC Multiverse.
“This partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products and DC will be great fun for my company, and a chance to deliver products that millions of fans of the DC brand have been asking for,” said Todd McFarlane, Owner and CEO of McFarlane Toys. “The DC universe has captivated the world and to be able to play in that ‘sandbox’ now makes me feel like a kid all over again. I can’t wait to see what we can accomplish together.”
The DC Multiverse collector figures and related toys will be available at major retail locations beginning in 2020.
It was announced earlier this year that DC would be ending their partnership with Mattel, who has been producing their toys for years. As of now, Spinmasters has also picked up the figure license along with McFarlane, and we will have to wait until Toy Fair next year to see what both of them do with it.
