No DeadShot in “Suicide Squad ” Sequel, Idris Elba To Play New Character

According to a report from Variety, Elba will not reprise the role that Will Smith previously portrayed as Deadshot as previously reported. Instead, Elba will be a new character for the franchise, although who that will be remains to be determined.

” … But after taking the last few weeks to discuss, everyone involved felt this was the right move. The team also did not want to feel as if it was disrespecting Smith, who helped bring this character to life for the first time, by replacing him with Elba. While many believe chances are still slim for a future return, the decision keeps the door open for Smith to possibly come back in future films, since his original reason for leaving had to do with scheduling and not creative differences.”

Warner Bros. representatives had no further comments about this news at the time of posting.

With this piece of news, only three characters expected to return in the sequel – Harley Quinn as Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang, and Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller. Gunn is in the process of casting the remaining team members with production expected to start in the fall.

No other casting news has been announced yet, but with plans to start filming this summer, I am sure we will hear some info sooner than later.

The film is planned for a summer release in 2021.

Will Smith’s Genie Looks Better in New “Aladdin” Trailer

It wasn’t that long ago when we got our first look at Will Smith as the Genie in Disney’s upcoming live-action “Aladdin” movie. Viewers were underwhelmed to say the least, and questioned how unfinished the blue CG model looked. Today, we have a new trailer to look at which includes a more refined Genie – and fans, we can all sigh a breath of relief.

Check out the trailer below:

Aside from getting many more morsels of what the movie will be like, we are definitely seeing more of what the Genie will look like. It’s a big improvement over what we saw last time.

The film stars Will Smith as the Genie; Mena Massoud as Aladdin; Naomi Scott as Jasmine; Marwan Kenzari as Jafar; Navid Negahban as the Sultan; Nasim Pedrad as Dalia; Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders; and Numan Acar as Hakim.

The movie also features new recordings of the original songs written by Alan Menken and Oscar-winning lyricists Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, plus two new songs written by Menken and lyrics by Oscar and Tony Award-winning songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.

Idris Elba Takes Over “Deadshot” role in “Suicide Squad 2”

“Suicide Squad 2” is still a thing that is happening, despite some recent turbulence. Today, a new actor has joined the cast to take over a lead role that just lost its actor.

Last week, we learned that Will Smith backed out of “Suicide Squad 2”, leaving the role of Deadshot without a body to play it. Today, we have learned that Idris Elba will take over that character for the upcoming sequel.

“Sources say that Elba met with Gunn on Friday and it went so swimmingly that talks began with the studio in earnest. Elba was the first and only choice for Gunn and the studio.”

Although Deadshot is returning, Gunn is reportedly looking to add DC Comics characters that have not been in any movies yet, as opposed to returning ones for his rendition of the Squad.

Idris Elba is currently working on the Fast and Furious sequel, as well as the movie version of the “Cats” musical, where he plays Macavity.

“Suicide Squad 2” is being written and directed by James Gunn, with Charles Roven and Peter Safran producing. Filming is anticipated to start this September, with an estimated Aug. 6, 2021 release date.

“Suicide Squad 2” Loses Will Smith

One “Suicide Squad” member just went the way of Slipknot and El Diablo for the upcoming sequel, as Will Smith has left his role as Deadshot in the upcoming sequel.

In a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Will Smith will not be returning to reprise his role as the mercenary Deadshot. Apparently, he was never officially signed on for the sequel to begin with, and scheduling issues have made it even more difficult. This led to him formally backing out of the project.

There is no word on if the character will remain in the film with a new actor replacing Smith, or if they will simply write him out of the sequel.

“Suicide Squad 2” will feature James Gunn’s return to a comic book film since Marvel dropped him in July. As for the remaining (and surviving) members of the Suicide Squad team from the first movie, none are confirmed to return as of this article.

Smith will show up next in Disney’s live-action version of “Aladdin”, which opens this May. Smith plays The Genie, and we hope the final visual FX of the film look better than what we have seen so far in the trailer.

First Look At Live-Action “Aladdin” Movie From Disney Underwhelms

Last night during the Grammy Awards, we got our first taste of how the new live-action remake of Disney’s “Aladdin” will look, and it needs to be seen to be believed… for better or worse, you decide!

To be perfectly honest, it’s a pretty underwhelming trailer, both in terms of information and visuals. The biggest buzzkill has to be seeing Will Smith as The Genie. To say he looks like a knockoff alien from Avatar would be putting it mildly. One can hope that this is still an early version of the visual FX, but if this is the final product – yuck.

Another thing that seems very telling to me is that the scene in the trailer was quite dim. I brightened this screenshot up in Photoshop to give you all a better look, and it’s not much better. Aside from looking very flat, it mostly appears like they cut out Will’s face, rotoscoped it on top of a CG model, and called it a day. This would explain the uncanny valley, and how it looks like Smith’s head is floating independently of his misshapen body.

We also got a brief look at Abu and Carpet in the trailer, along with the rest of the effects. Overall, it’s not the most impressive, especially when you consider we are talking about Disney money here, but let’s be optimistic and hope when the film comes out everything will look way better.

We may not be the only people that feel this way. As of the time of this video being posted (about 10 AM EST), the reception is pretty mixed – with over 2 million views, the thumbs up are about the same number of thumbs down, which is hovering around 20K.

“Aladdin” is produced by Dan Lin, p.g.a., and Jonathan Eirich, p.g.a., with Marc Platt and Kevin De La Noy serving as executive producers. Eight-time Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken provides the score, which includes new recordings of the original songs written by Menken and Oscar-winning lyricists Howard Ashman and Tim Rice and includes two new songs written by Menken and Oscar and Tony Award-winning songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.

Will Smith Talks About The “How Come He Don’T Want Me” Scene From Fresh Prince

Everyone who watched “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” remembers that iconic scene where Will and his deadbeat Dad (played by Ben Vereen) have one final scene together before he runs out of his life once again. It’s a heartbreaking moment for Will, and intensified as his vents to Uncle Phil (James Avery) about how he doesn’t need anyone before breaking down in the arms of his Uncle, the father he needed all along.

In an interview with Tidal featuring Elliott Wilson from Rap Radar, Smith broke down the scene and explained how that moment came to be. It’s quite the story and worth checking out.

Check out the video below:

Here is the transcript from the clip:

James Avery wouldn’t give me a damn inch. Everything I said and everything I did for James Avery he was like “no, not good enough. You have this position, look where you are, look at what you are blessed with. I’m sorry but I am not accepting anything other than absolute committed perfection from you.”

And at that time I was ballin! (laughter) and James Avery wouldn’t give me nothing. He was the model for me. James Avery was so serious and I would look at him and he had that acting power I wanted to have. He would listen to my music and say “nope, nope.”

So we’re doing that scene (see below) and I’m having a hard time with it and it comes to the moment and we’re in the scene together. I’m messin up the lines cuz I want it so bad and we’re in front of the audience and we’re doin it and I’m furious and he holds on to me and he says “hey, relax, relax, it’s already in there you know what it is. Look at me, use me. Don’t act around me, act with me.” So he’s talking me through it so I get it together.

So I do the scene and he hugs me at the end and while he’s hugging me he whispers in my ear, “that’s f*ckin actin right there!” (laughter). It makes me teary right now. I was using him. I wanted him to want me. I wanted him to approve of me. So actually in that scene I was transferring that energy.

That was certainly the first time the world saw the dramatic abilities of Smith, and it would (as we know now) not be the last.

NY Toy Fair 2016: Mattel’s Suicide Squad figures

At the Matty Collector event during NY Toy Fair 2016, Mattel unveiled their anticipated action figures for the upcoming “Suicide Squad” movie. This lineup includes two 12-inch figures (with limited articulation) of an unmasked Deadshot and Joker, along with the first wave of six-inch action figures that include Katana, Killer Croc, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot (with alternate Will Smith head), The Joker, and a gas mask wearing Batman.

Noticeably absent from this presentation was Harley Quinn, whose only representation in figure form that we have seen thus far was at DC Direct as a statue. Not sure why Mattel is keeping their Harley under wraps, but I am sure we will see her in the second wave of this line, along with the rest of the team.

New poster for “Men in Black 3” is full of MIB

You down with MIB? Yeah, you know me! The fine folks over at Collider have caught a first glimpse of a poster for Sony’s upcoming sci-fi threequel, “Men in Black 3.”

The image is comprised of the text logo for the film, which work to create the face of Tommy Lee Jones. Chances are, other posters will begin to pop up leading into the debut of the other actors, Will Smith and Josh Brolin. If you have motion-sickness, I suggest you don’t stare at that poster for too long.

“MINB 3” stars Will Smith, traveling back in time to save a young Agent K (Josh Brolin) in order to avert a world-ending disaster. In other words, a normal Tuesday for Division 9. The film also stars Alice Eve, Emma Thompson, and Johnny Knoxville, and opens in 3D on May 25th, 2012. A trailer is expected to hit theaters by Christmas time.
