Growing up in the 1990s was a great time for cartoons. You could enjoy all the hits from the ’80’s along with all the new shows from the times. Saturday mornings were the best mornings, while Sundays were usually solid but not quite as good. However, it was those days, as well as weekday early morning syndicated shows before school started that really stuck with us.
One show that a lot of folks remember today was the Mega Man cartoon from Ruby-Spears. Also made by Ashi Productions and Ocean Productions (with Capcom of course), this cartoon was pretty cheesy, even for its era. The theme song will get stuck in your head, but I don’t know if that’s a good thing or not. Still, it was a fun show and if you are a Mega Man mega fan, you should be watching this!
Check out the series premiere video below to get you started:
The first episode of Mega Man sees Dr. Wily attack New York’s Kennedy Airport and Mega Man is crushed by a falling object, leaving him in need of repair. While Mega Man is being fixed, Dr. Light reveals his past history working with Dr. Wily and how it led to the events that happened that day.
From there, Dr. Wily builds his evil robots and we are off to the races!
It ran from 1994 to 1995 in syndication in the US. The show only lasted 23 episodes, but it does include some references to Mega Man X, the more current game of the time.
