After Fan Backlash, “Sonic The Hedgehog” Movie Will Get Some Big Changes

The trailer for the new “Sonic the Hedgehog” movie created a resounding and unanimous internet reaction – WTF IS THIS? While not as bad as the initial live-action Aladdin trailer, viewers were quite unhappy with the look of the Blue Blur. Today, those concerns and criticisms were addressed directly by the studio and yes, they heard everything we said.

Director Jeff Fowler posted the following on Twitter to address the critics:

“Thank you for the support. And the criticism. The message is loud and clear,” Fowler tweeted. “You aren’t happy with the design & you want changes. It’s going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be… #sonicmovie #gottafixfast”

Earlier this year when images of Sonic first leaked to the internet, Sonic creator Yuji Naka was not too happy either, and it seems like his reaction has stayed the same with this official reveal.

The biggest positive out of this is the creators and studios are listening, and this is a chance to make things right. If Paramount can achieve what the Pokemon Detective Pikachu movie has done with how good their CG characters look, let’s hope Sonic can get some love too.

Sonic will not hit theaters until November 8, although the date could be pushed back to make these changes. Realistically, if only the Sonic VFX are being changed, hitting that targeted release should still be possible.
