“Aliens” and “Planet of the Apes” Franchises Could Continue At Disney, X-Men To Reboot
CinemaCon is going down right now in Las Vegas, and some big news came out of Disney, who recently gobbled up 20th Century Fox, Fox Searchlight, and most of their assets.
At the event, Disney showcased new footage from The new Lion King and Aladdin movies, as well as a fair amount of scenes from “Avengers: Endgame”, but a major focus was on that Fox merger. Indeed, perhaps due to that nothing new was shown from Star Wars: Episode IX, Frozen 2, Avatar, Artemis Fowl, and many other highly anticipated movies coming from the studio.
The biggest news for us was the announcement that Disney was interested in keeping some Fox franchises alive, specifically Aliens and Planet of the Apes.
Alien and Planet of the Apes sound like they’re still in play at Disney, as they were highlighted onscreen at CinemaCon as franchises they are actively continuing to develop.— Exhibitor Relations Co. (@ERCboxoffice) April 3, 2019

They also added that X-Men: Dark Phoenix was going to be “the perfect sendoff for our epic X-Men series,” meaning this is the end of that team (and potentially cast), and if these merry mutants ever return, it will be as a reboot.
On the plus side, they also said that Deadpool would be here to stay for “years to come”, so that means if the Merc with a Mouth crosses over, he may be the only character to remember the Fox years.
Things are certainly changing for Disney with their devouring of Fox for $71.3 Billion, so it will be interesting to see how this develops long-term for them, and what it will mean for many of our favorite franchises.
