Extra Content for the Mass Effect 3 Endings Coming This Summer

Bioware’s Mass Effect 3 was released at the beginning of March with much fanfare and one very interesting PR stunt.  The game was met with, for the most part, glowing reviews from the gaming community, and fans were all set to take their personalized Commander Shepard into a final confrontation with the series ultimate antagonists, the Reapers.  It wasn’t long, however, before Bioware’s official forums were awash with complaints regarding the ending to ME3.  Fans were upset over a lack of choice, as well as not having any real sense of closure or that any of the actions they had taken over the course of three games mattered to the outcome. Various memes have even been created reflecting this displeausre.

At first, Bioware seemingly defended the choices the writers of the game made and it appeared as if they wouldn’t take any actions to address the widespread anger of its most loyal fans.  It wasn’t long, though, before one of the founders of Bioware, Dr. Ray Muzyka, released an official statement clarifying Bioware’s position, followed later by an announcement that some single player end game DLC would be released in the hopes of alleviating some of the anger of the series’ fans.

On April 5, Bioware issued a statement regarding concrete plans for the DLC.  The Extended Cut DLC will be released this summer for the 360, PS3, and PC, and will include additional cinematics and epilogue scenes.  The DLC will be free for any interested players, and will remain free until April 2014.
