Recently, Kotaku unveiled the official timeline from Miyamoto’s “Legend of Zelda” video game series, thanks to a new art book from Nintendo celebrating the franchises’ 25th anniversary. While the preview was in Japanese initially, the book has now been released to the masses, and here is all the info in English.
In addition to listing the games in order, the book also provides some additional background information and commentary, along with names for each of the disparate “eras” in the parallel Zeldaverses. In case you were wondering, most of the timeline is backwards, with the oldest games at the bottom and newer ones on top, with the exception of the GBA and Nintendo DS games which have their own timelines going on.
Is this book canon or just some fan-made trash> Well, the added translations reveal that the book’s “supervising editor” was Zelda boss Eiji Aonuma, so I believe that means we can say this is pretty official.
